The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) is still awaiting an invitation by President Mahinda Rajapakse to discuss a political solution for the Tamil people in the island, TNA Leader R. Sampanthan told Daily Mirror online.

Sampanthan had recently extended his willingness to have discussions with the President on solutions to the ethnic conflict and had conveyed this decision during a recent dialogue with External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris.

However Sampanthan told Daily Mirror online that he was still awaiting President Rajapakse’s invitation to hold discussions. “We have not been invited so far,” Sampanthan said

Minister Peiris told reporters this week that his recent talks with the TNA Leader had been a part of an ‘initial discussion’ between the government and the Tamil party and had reiterated that President Rajapakse would meet the TNA delegation soon.

Minister Peiris had also conveyed to Sampanthan that the government hoped to have more talks with the TNA in the future and added that President Rajapakse also expected to meet other Tamil political parties in the island soon to discuss the Tamil issue.

According to Minister Peiris, this move has been commended by the USA who has praised the Sri Lankan government for its efforts to meet the Tamil parties in an effort to discuss the final solution to the ethnic issue. (Daily Mirror online)

When I see some of the comments made by the readers, I have come to one conclusion, that is the vast Sinhala people do not want peace. They do not think about the country. If the Sinhala people want peace they should at once think about the proplem. Let sort out the Tamils issue and we all then work for the good of the Country. How long you all can come up with statements? Enough is enough, do something now.

Yes, President will take a appointment FROM you and meet very soon.

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 08:38 AM

TNA = LTTE, My tamil friends please don't support TNA. They will get all the joys while we (normal tamil people) suffer from another war.

You are right karthik, but the extreme elements of tamils spoilt the soup, now it is hard to have a U turn at once. Need Tonnes of time.

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 08:03 AM

well said Sri Minnal, that was a good one

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 07:43 AM

Very true! This chap R. Sampathan is now being financed by some Tamil movie producers in Tamilnadu. It is these big screen that are now trying to pull the strings of the TNA pupuets.

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 07:33 AM

You are just another Tamil shouting discrimination as all Tamils do. Do you hear Muslims or Burghers shouting discrimination?

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 07:32 AM

Well said, the GOSL & the majority must understand that every citizen should have equal share in the country, respect each other & value each other"s identity. Also keep away religion from politics. "No bully then no problem"

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 07:31 AM

People who want power devolution should go to tamil nadu because they will not get it here.We will fight till the end to prevent any power devolution

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 07:24 AM

It's our(Tamils) problem. We can identify the people who are greedy on power or really representing us. It is not a "panadol" problem as you mentioned.

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 07:12 AM

WHAT IS THERE TO TALK WITH THE TNA??

THEY DO NOT REPRESENT THE TAMIL PEOPLE.

THEY ONLY REPRESENT THE FORMER LTTE.

SO THIS TNA SHOULD BE MADE A CRIMINAL ORGANISATION BY STATUTE.

    END OF STORY.

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 07:12 AM

President should get to know what my interest is in this issue, as i am a Tamil and citizen of this country.

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 07:07 AM

Pointless taking to TNA they don't represent Tamils at all....they are just a bunch of opportunist....!!!

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 07:06 AM

Election is over, so dont expect pre election invitations and dansala any more!

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 06:01 AM

For continous peace and for the well being of Tamil people, TNA should be honest and should 100% get rid off their pro-LTTE ideals and seperate state mania. Until they do that all the intended talk with any goverment will not solve Tamil peoeple problems. TNA also doesnt represent Tamil peoeple and other Tamil political parties are more honest, truthful and trustworthy.

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 06:58 AM

The truth is, it is you people are the problems of Tamil people.
For the last so many years you did not solve their problems but dance to the tune of LTTE like gypsy monkeys.

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 06:55 AM

Hey TNA,,,,until you receive your invitation why dont you go and talk with the Stars of Bolywood and sing some hindi songs.

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 06:53 AM

I wonder whether the TNA people has given a at least pandol pill to Sri lankan Tamils....... the are only greedy on power.....

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 06:43 AM

Sambandan we all want to stay like a one national in sri lanka dont try to make money this will not happen i am married to a tamil woman but she never want what you want

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 06:42 AM

i think R. Sampathan is wasting his time, since 1958 there is no solution for the tamils, and from mahinda's government tamils can't expect nothing but discrimination

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 06:40 AM

    I too Agree withe Ananda.S.
What talks with LTTE surporters. Dear H.E.....Dont waste your valuable time. Continue with the development of N&E. I am no PA surporter, but admire the good work you intend to take forward..... Good luck

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 06:39 AM

SriLankan government should be honest and open minded to the speak with TNA. That is only way to keep the peace permanently in motherland.

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 06:38 AM

Vast majority of Tamils are behind TNA/ITAK. The election results have successively shown that. If the govt is genuinely interested about solving the ethnic issue then they should initiate dialog with them.

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 06:37 AM

    Who Will for What????

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 06:32 AM

LTTE may have controlled TNA, but now LTTE is no more, the Govt should analyse and resolve the root of the tamil problem which existed over a long period. Everyone knows that the past Govt never implemented any of the agreements signed.

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 06:31 AM

We have been talking whilst fighting and sowing the seeds of hatred right along. Lets change that posture and think we are all humans in the first place. Secondly, we are all inhabitants of one motherland Sri Lanka and be altruistic in our approach. Surely, we will meet success.

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 06:28 AM

The President should speak to all the Tamil political parties instead of just TNA only.

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 06:23 AM

the truth is TNA is the true representative of ordinary Tamil people and having 12 seats in the parliament shows that . accept the truth . at least now make solutions for Tamils to decide whats good for them . power devolution is a must to solve this problem.

    Thursday, 03 June 2010 06:15 AM

    Well said Ananda S.
