A three and a half year old girl was found abandoned in the Ehaliyagoda Public Grounds today and the police have launched a search operation for her parents.

Police Media Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody said that the girl was found by the police officers who were on duty close to the grounds.

According to police, the child’s name is ‘Sellamary’ and she was admitted to the Ehaliyagoda Hospital for a medical test.

Subsequently after the test she was produced before the Magistrate and was sent to the Ehaliyagoda probation office.

The public in the area had informed the policemen about the lone child in the grounds and the police are now investigating to arrest the parents of the child.

The police seek the help of the public to find the whereabouts of her parents and obtain information about the child.

How did you come to a conclusion that the child was 'Dumped'? There could be so many other reasons. Maybe the kid was kidnapped and left there. Maybe the kid wandered off. So many other reasons.

Lately, there have been a few incidents of parents abandoning their child (children) and our good police look for the parent(s) to arrest. My advice to the police "do not arrest the parents" arrest the situation. Find the reason for parents abandoning their own children. Doesn't it usually lead us to the deteriorated economy of the land? Now, who is to be arrested? the parents or the culprit who destroy the economy? you know who?
