The French Government has reiterated to Sri Lanka that the LTTE is a banned organization, in light of the recent controversy over the erection of a statue of former LTTE Political wing leader Thamilchelvan in a French Town.

External Affairs Ministry Director General of Public Communication and Spokesperson Bandula Jayasekara told the Daily Mirror that the French Government has written to the Local Municipal Council of La Courneuve, the French town in the northeastern suburbs of Paris where the statue is being erected. MR is alive, therefore no statues required unlike your LTTE friends rotting in hell.

Jay Ranaweera Friday, 05 November 2010 04:52 PM

But LTTE TERRORISTS MONUMENTS ARE ALLOWED!!! What a double standard???

    Jo Friday, 05 November 2010 04:16 PM

And still they get to erect statues of terrorist leaders in their towns ???? What a joke !!

    luxman Friday, 05 November 2010 12:44 PM

it is very true. we never give respsect to our own tamil citizens. thank god i am sinhalese, else i would also be treated like a second citizen in this country.

    Gobbaya Friday, 05 November 2010 10:29 AM

The LTTE is banned in france only in theory. I was shocked to see the amount of LTTE propaganda posters in plain sight in many parts of Paris when I visited in 2008. I'm not sure how vocal they are since the war 'ended' though.
If Adolf Hitler's statue was erected, would the European reaction be the same? Of course not. Double standards are plain to see

    malintha Friday, 05 November 2010 09:50 AM

you say no ltte but ban is still on and you people are happy what ever news about tamils .its call the racisam

Calistus Jayatilleke Friday, 05 November 2010 06:42 AM

    Modawansa Friday, 05 November 2010 04:23 AM

    KD Thursday, 04 November 2010 08:33 PM

Ban must continue but I think they should build the statue for people to throw rotten eggs and pigeons to poop.

ampara son Thursday, 04 November 2010 05:24 PM

It should remain not only in France all over the world

    Deepal Thursday, 04 November 2010 01:44 PM

    Oi Phil or whoever,

Where have you seen in this world the "Political wing leaders" wearing CYANIDE capsule around his neck and carrying a pistol?

    Just dont talk rubbish .....

    Anushka Thursday, 04 November 2010 01:40 PM

The "political wing" leader is just a deceiving name. Don't think for one moment that he was a man committed to peace who was not actively involved in the LTTE's military affairs. Did you know he was in charge of the LTTE units in the Pooneryn area until he died? Please don't try to portray this terrorist as another Kadirgamar.

teri amara Thursday, 04 November 2010 12:58 PM

although banned thereappear to be small groups of terrorists in France. those responsible for erecting the statue of Ltte terrorist should be arrested and tried.

    tgte Thursday, 04 November 2010 12:37 PM

The paws need to be trimmed or cut too, just to be sure it will NEVER be a harmful creature the way it was once upon a time.

    Anton Thursday, 04 November 2010 12:13 PM

But it should not be banned in HELL where they can be safe in the arms of the devils.

    ajith Thursday, 04 November 2010 11:29 AM

No point of getting excited as the teeth of the tiger has been extracted long time ago.

    MagodisThuma Thursday, 04 November 2010 11:21 AM

Once-upon a time there was a terrorist organization called LTTE
    Daddy what's LTTE..?

Punchi Putha Thursday, 04 November 2010 11:20 AM

Understand that there should be something for the few desperated people living in those countries. We don't mind it, as long as the Singhe Kodiya is flying in Kilinochchi :)

    Phil Thursday, 04 November 2010 10:56 AM

Former LTTE Political wing leader, late Mr. Thamilchelvan was an ever smiling peace lover not understood by many southern friends.

A statue for him should not be interpreted as a monument for terrorism. but a place for worship, reminding liberty, equality and fraternity .

However, the French government is making a mistake in extending the ban on LTTE, which is dead as dodo. Their action drives a wedge, preventing LTTE sympathisers seeking peace.

    dutugamunu Thursday, 04 November 2010 10:53 AM
