The Sri Lankan government says its stand on the appointment of a panel of experts by the UN remains unchanged and it is awaiting the outcome of the Commission of Inquiry on Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation appointed by President Mahinda Rajapakse.
The government has consistently opposed the appointment of a panel of experts by the UN to advise UN Secretary General Ban ki-moon on Sri Lanka’s civil war and UN Under Secretary General for Political Affairs Lynn Pascoe told reporters following a two day visit to Sri Lanka that the UN will go ahead with the panel.
When asked to comment on the still UN going ahead with the panel government Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that the government stand on the matter is clear and the reply to the creation of a panel was Sri Lanka creating its own commission. (Daily Mirror online)

Minister Mr.Keheliya well said, you are absolutely right. There is no need for UN Committe. UN Should appoint a committee to inquiry about killing of 1 million civilians in Iraq and killing of innocent people in Pakistan and Afganistan. But i doubt whether Ban Ki Moon do anything to displease Americans and West.

Francis, Why our UN Ambassador is heading the UN panel against Isreal, so why not a panel for Sri Lanka. Face it with courage & confidence if S/L 's hands are clean

Sri Lanka need not be afraid of any UN panels, but morally and logically UN has no right to impose it on a small country instead of looking into larger excesses committed by others.
