oyage podi guru Friday, 07 January 2011 08:23 AM

I have no expertise to opine one way or the other; but it does seem to me that some public relations people are not doing a very good job with regards to this new port.

    rosh Friday, 07 January 2011 09:02 AM

Arriving ships to the port !!! can anyone tell me which phase it could be???

    malkanthi Friday, 07 January 2011 09:18 AM

These projects are not like 'instant noodles'!

OZ BOY Friday, 07 January 2011 09:07 AM

    malkanthi Friday, 07 January 2011 09:21 AM

    dilum Friday, 07 January 2011 07:21 AM

What are the benefits received from the first phase? How many ships have come to Hambantota so far. Utter waste of money.

    TMA Friday, 07 January 2011 09:51 AM

Yeah, a port without an insurance policy 2 harbor a single Jetliner

    john Friday, 07 January 2011 10:42 AM

instead of another harbour the $810m should be shared out among the people. Every man, woman and child would get Rs4500

Calistus Jayatilleke Friday, 07 January 2011 12:11 PM

Sri Lanka is slowly becoming a satellite state of China and provider of employment to Chinese prisoners. What a miracle of Asia!

    Bakir Friday, 07 January 2011 01:45 PM

    why so-much negative ????

    Jay Friday, 07 January 2011 05:04 PM

Strategically there is no need for vessels coming from Middle East to stop and refuel in SL. Bad decision to build a port that will not be profitable. Same thinking about the airport.

    bernard Friday, 07 January 2011 05:42 PM

Countless! Line of ships extend all the way to Suez Canal!!

    Jonathan Saturday, 08 January 2011 08:28 AM

Citizen 1, read and study Sri Lankan geography, and shipping lines and routes Hambantota is ideal for a port.

Loku Pissa Friday, 07 January 2011 06:04 AM

You would better go to China and see how you are treated !

    citizen1 Friday, 07 January 2011 04:30 AM

Wow. We are such a rich country. Is there no end to this Hambantota??!

    Srilankan Friday, 07 January 2011 04:46 AM

Our perception is when the foreign company a job it has more quality.but most of our money will be go outside our country.

    kassa Friday, 07 January 2011 04:44 AM

    Suba Anagathayak !!!

    Lal Friday, 07 January 2011 05:06 AM

SL should aim to overtake asian giants like Shanghai and Singapore in handling shipping. Our nation can develop with this alone if handled properly.

    malkanthi Friday, 07 January 2011 05:18 AM

This is a longterm benefit to us, provided by then we have good foreign relationship.

    Honest Friday, 07 January 2011 05:43 AM

did Sri Lankan get any benefits from first stage in Hambanthota harbour ??

it is useless to spent more Poor People's money. :(

    Wara Friday, 07 January 2011 05:45 AM

You are not in this country. At very first it was said that there are two phases. and 2nd phase to be finished around 2015 or so.

    I Hussein Friday, 07 January 2011 05:45 AM

I wonder how many vessels will be handled a day. Is the traffics that high? What will be the fate of Galle Harbour?

Tharaka Chanaka Friday, 07 January 2011 05:54 AM

Why not to a Sri Lankan company? According to our excellency this port is a landmark to sri lanka's development. Aren't there any qualified Sri Lankans capable of building a port??? or is it just one of the million hidden gimmicks the Chinese have agreed with this govt? Sad no note the village people will not understand all this...

    I Hussein Friday, 07 January 2011 06:03 AM

Galle Harbour will be a Museum in few years. Some rural schools can organise few trips a year.

    Nilantha Friday, 07 January 2011 04:34 AM

    Good Move

    Leslie Friday, 07 January 2011 06:48 AM

What was the urgency in developing harbour at Hambantota. Could not the resources been used on either Galle or Trincomalee. These two have been taking in ships. Trincomalee shipped all our teas to London before the insurgency.
It will not be a surprise Hambantota makes the capital of Sri Lanka at a future date!!

    KHKaru Friday, 07 January 2011 07:01 AM

Why, citizen1, do you want all development work centered around Colombo?

    hadiranpola Friday, 07 January 2011 07:03 AM

congratulations.Masses have to understand that in this global world concept we have to get some one to invest on our infrastructure that will create a better atmosphere to enhance competitiveness in the future on the side lines of rising India

    TMA Friday, 07 January 2011 07:13 AM

How many phases R gonna B there?

    Ranil Friday, 07 January 2011 07:03 AM

No need only be in Colombo. But Hambantota is not the other area in Sri Lanka.

    Pandula Friday, 07 January 2011 07:18 AM

Can Anyone say How many new national ceromonies will be held with this port?

    Lucky Friday, 07 January 2011 07:15 AM

The port will grow as the demand rises. There is no end. Everything depends on future demand.

    SL 2009 Friday, 07 January 2011 07:14 AM

so so citizen1,, seems unable to tolerate Ahhh

    Lucky Friday, 07 January 2011 07:18 AM

Chinese have done a lot of quality work in Srilanka including BMICH. They have good expertise. Why not use them. Most of the money still goes to Sri Lankans who work in the project.

    Wara Friday, 07 January 2011 07:20 AM

It's not commercially started. Just wait and see !!
