More worries for the TNA

A new political front is likely to be mooted against the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) in the Northern Province ahead of the elections to the local authorities, EPRLF leader Suresh Premachandran said yesterday.

The TNA, made up of four political parties is facing an internal struggle after the Eelam People’s Evolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF) led by Mr. Premachandran decided to quit the alliance. Since its inception in 2001, the EPRLF has contested elections under the 'House Symbol' of the Ilankai Tamil Arachu Katchchi (ITAK), which is the TNA's main constituent party.

Mr. Premachandran told Daily Mirror his party was no longer prepared to contest elections under the ITAK’s House symbol, and it had notified the TNA leadership about the latest decision.

He said the people gave a mandate to the ITAK to work out a political solution to the national question and secure the merger of the Northern and Eastern Provinces but the ITAK was only rubbing shoulders with the government with no solution in sight.

Mr. Premachandran said his party would contest the local government elections on its own or under a new political front, which might be formed ahead of the elections.

When asked whether Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran would back it, he said he was unable to say just yet how it would be worked out. (Kelum Bandara)

Of all the four Tamil militant groups trained by India, the LTTE became dominant so the other three "joined"democratic politics to escape the bullets from the LTTE. Now the LTTE is gone the EPRLF is beginning to flex their muscles.Probably India is working behind the scene. This is a dangerous development.

If the Indians arm the EPRLF, like how they helped LTTE, our Army would liquidate the EPRLF, in 24 hours.

You all live in the past. The war is history. India is only interested in business relations with Sri Lanka, but not in a new civil war. Your fear of India is pathological.

India washed it's hands after the killing of Rajiv Gandhi by LTTE. Their support to Sri Lanka by naval intelligence, patrolling offshore were major contributors in winning LTTE in 2009. Mahinda had admitted that.

MP Sumenthiran was the route cause for the split and anarchy during the NP council corruption scandal. Majority of the Tamils support CV, as he never betrayed them throughout his position as chief minister. When Sumenthiran headed the coup, with Sambathan in the background, the support of the masses helped CV to stay in power. Many brand him as a racist, but he only fought for justice that has been denied to the displaced, political prisoners and the ordinary citizens who elected him.

Putrid politics by egocentric Politicians. Incompetence and lack of intellectuality reign supreme at its best. God help the Sri Lankan Tamils.

If they want to intervene, consulate is not a must for that. Did India had one throughout LTTE time?

VP said to tamilians that they can trust MR because he was showing him as a fighter and acting as a fighter but can not trust RW because he is showing him as a peacemaker but acting as a fighter.

Sri Lanka is the country where those who booted out by the people are dreaming about coming back to power thinking people forgot their past. This guy Suresh who was not elected last time is having the wishful thinking as that of MR. But not all are lucky like the other Mahinda (Samarasinga).
