Our photojournalist Kushan Pathiraja captured on film, the 'Nedungamuwa Raja' while it was being escorted along Kandy-Colombo Road under military protection last morning. The tusker is currently bearer of the main relics casket at the Kandy Esala Peraheara.

Sad day! Thousands of year these lived freely but thanks To MR’s Chinese debt trap we need to give military protection.

MRs debt trap? What about the debt this regime has incurred to do nothing? Besides what does military protection for the casket bearer have to do with debt? Go, get some medical help!

This is a good opportunity to promote wildlife tourism in the country. We can advertise to the whole world to come witness the last of the srilankan tuskers before extinction. What a pathetic situation that these majestic creatures are facing due to the greediness of our patriotic people.

We see plenty of posters these days against the reduction in taxes on beer etc by the patriotic sinhala movements. But these same movements are silent on the threat to these majestic beasts. What a hypocracy
