A Cabinet reshuffle is set to take place on Wednesday (21) as a fore-runner to a new government headed by the United National Party (UNP), it is learnt.

The decision was taken after a meeting that took place on Sunday (18) between President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.

The new government will have Mr. Wickremesinghe as its leader. Many ministers representing the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) would join hands with the UNP to run this government, while several MPs from the UPFA are due to sit in the opposition as a mark of protest.

If UNP forms a Government, then there should be only 30 cabinet ministers. If PM does this he will immediately gain respect of the voters.

Cabinet cannot be reduced to 28 under the UNP govt as the balance will then shift to the opposition.

Form a govt only with the UNP, limit the cabinet to 30. The UNP is sure to regain its popularity.

It will be great sacrifice for the UPFA ministers to quit their posts in anticipation of glorious MR come back. In LKG class we studied the story of the wolf who went behind the male goat, waiting for the testicles to fall. What a waste of public funds.

First decide who runs the government. It is not clear right now who is exactly accountable for the problems in the country. Is this a parliament (PM) led democracy or an executive president led administration? We seem to have a hybrid model right now. We cannot have 2 leaders running the country.Having sorted that out, focus on following 5 points:1.Bring the cost of living down. Uplift domestic industries and promote new jobs.2.End corruption and hold the fraudsters of current and previous governments accountable. For this, Ranil need to adopt some leadership skills.3.Get rid of the incompetent and thug ministers – establish qualification criteria to enter into politics. Reduce the number of ministries to 10-12 and cut the bureaucracy. Give the ministers clear development targets, monitor them monthly, and fire those not achieving them.4.Speed-up development of roads, IT infrastructure, schools, universities, housing, hospitals, and rural areas.

Do away with duty free car permits, Rs.100,000/- per month i.e.Rs.1,200,000/- per year to maintain offices, pension after 5 years, despite imposing various taxes on the people and public sector employees pensionable after 20 years. This should be a govt. for the people not a govt. for the politicians by the politicians.
