A young man living in a rented house in Kamburapola in Kuliyapitiya with a married woman who eloped with him, had come under an acid attack and died on admission to Kuliyapitiya Teaching Hospital.
Investigations revealed that the 42-year-old mother of three children who eloped with her lover about two days ago after an altercation with her husband was living in the rented house in Kamburapola area. The deceased Pathiraja Mudiyanselage Sanjeewa (25) was a resident of Malkaduwawa in Kurunegala.
The suspect who fled from the area after the incident had been arrested by the Kurunegala Police.
Police said the woman’s husband with two of their children and the woman’s mother had visited the house last morning and thrown acid at the young man after an altercation followed by fisticuffs with him. The woman who received serious burn injuries in the incident was admitted in a critical condition to the Intensive Care Unit at the Kuliyapitiya (Teaching) Hospital.
One of the children who received minor injuries was receiving treatments at the hospital and the other child was under the care of the Police. A police team under Crime Investigation Branch CI Kamal Ratnayake is conducting further investigations on the instructions of HQI Kuliyapitiya Police CI Athula Karunapala and SP Rohana Gamage and SSP Mahinda Dissanayaka.
