The facilities will be made available to conduct the vision test required for driving license for light vehicles at government hospitals from next week, Transport Services Management State Minister Dilum Amunugama said.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at a meeting with Transport Ministry officials on Tuesday said that only a vision-test would be sufficient to issue driving license for light vehicles and discussed the possibility of conducting such tests at hospitals.
Accordingly, State Minister Amunugama yesterday said the facilities will be provided to conduct vision tests at government hospitals from next week.
“This will simplify the procedure of conducting vision tests for driving license for light vehicles. Not everyone has to visit the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) office in Werahera for this purpose now. However, the DMT office at Werahera will also can cater to conduct the tests,” he told a news briefing.
The state minister said it was the objective of President Rajapaksa to simplify the complex procedures of public needs.
At the meeting held on Tuesday at the Presidential Secretariat, the attention of the President was drawn to the medical examination process involving the issuance of driving licenses. Explaining the complex nature of the process, he said only a vision-test would be sufficient to issue driving license for light vehicles.
The President informed to conduct a full medical examination only for the heavy vehicle driving licenses.
