The leaders of the United National Party (UNP) and its alliance partners have agreed to work out a criterion for the selection of their presidential candidate, Daily Mirror learns.

There was a special meeting attended by its leader Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Deputy Leader Minister Sajith Premadasa, Ministers Ravi Karunanayake, Rauff Hakeem, Mano Ganeshan, Navin Dissanayake and Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.

According to a minister who attended it, there is agreement on most of the disputed areas as far as the formation of the National Democratic Front (NDF) is concerned. (Kelum Bandara)

This is Ranil's plan to buckle Sajith so that his deal with Gota will be done to bring as much dissension in the UNP as possible.

Criteria is to take a vote of MP's and then UNP members as done in UK. Democratic way if the party respect democracy.
