The prevailing showery condition is likely to continue over the Northern, Eastern and North-Central Provinces today, but will fairly dissipate by tomorrow, the Meteorology Department said today.
Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur at times in the Northern, Eastern, North-Central and Uva Provinces and in Matale and Hambantota Districts. Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere particularly after 2:00 p.m.
Heavy falls of 100-150mm are likely at several locations in the Northern Province and in Polonnaruwa and Trincomalee Districts. Heavy falls of 75-100mm are likely at some locations in the Central Province and in Ampara, Batticaloa and Anuradhapura Districts. Heavy falls of 75mm were forecasted at many areas in the Sabaragamuwa Province. Fairly heavy falls of 50mm are expected at several locations in the Western Province and in Galle and Matara Districts.
Misty conditions were forecasted at areas in the Western, Central and Sabaragamuwa Provinces during morning hours.
Meanwhile, the DMC said 51,146 persons belonging to 14,963 families were affected in 13 districts as a result of adverse weather. On the other hand, 63 houses have been destroyed and 1,463 houses damaged. The districts that have been affected are Anuradhapura, Ampara, Batticaloa, Polonnaruwa, Kurunegala, Hambantota, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Moneragala, Kandy, Kegalle and Badulla.
