A one-hour power cut may be experienced in several areas in the country as CEYPETCO has suspended fuel supply to thermal power plants, Power and Energy Ministry’s Information Director Sulakshana Jayawardena said.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror he said the power cuts would be experienced due to a shortage of 150 megawatts of electricity in the main grid.
The thermal power plants have no sufficient fuel supply for electricity generation.
“The prevailing electricity has to be balanced and the power distribution process functions within the system until the total is capacity restored,” Mr. Jayawardena said.
A Ministry level discussion is underway to rectify the issue at least by tomorrow morning, he added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

CEB does not allow credit to consumers, CEB should pay for fuel purchased and give the supply to consumers. If consumers get in arrears, CEB is quick to disconnect supply. Consumers are at the receiving end.

Exactly how many hours does this spokesperson mean when he says one hour? Here at Bandarawela power cuts have become the rule rather than the exception. For the last 9 hours or so we have been experiencing sporadic power cuts for a total duration of more than three hours. We are so thankful to the high efficiency of this sordid regime and are awaiting a chance to voice our opinion.
