A grade 12 student of the Sapugaskanda Maha Vidyalaya, who had suddenly fallen ill while practising at the school sports ground, was pronounced dead on admission to the Kiribathgoda Hospital yesterday, police said.
The deceased student had been identified as Aruna Danajaya Hettiarachchi (17). The Sapugaskanda Police said the student had fallen ill last morning during sports practice.
The father of the student had said that an elder brother had also died under similar circumstances due to a heart ailment. The post mortem was to be conducted at the Kiribathgoda Hospital.
Further investigations are conducted by the OIC of the Sapugaskanda Police, Chief Inspector Thusitha Jayakody and PC Percylal. (W. D. H. Vithanage, Kachitha Subasinghe and Sudath Pubudu Keerthi)
