The younger brother of Rajiv Jayaweera yesterday informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate Court that he had no suspicions over his brother’s death and affirmed that it was a suicide.
During the Magistrate’s Inquiry, Mr. Jayaweera’s younger brother Sanjeewa Renuka Jayaweera informed Court that he had received a message from his brother on June 11 indicating his briefcase number. “In the message, he asked me to open his brief case,” he informed the Court.
He said that in the briefcase his brother had included evidence related to his decision to commit suicide. “There were two letters in the briefcase. The first letter indicated his decision and the other noted how he had distributed his money to different people and institutions,” Sanjeewa said. How he came into possession of a firearm was also mentioned in the letter. He informed the Court that after reading the two letters, he had made several attempts to locate his brother whose phone was switched off. Sanjeewa further said that thereafter he had filed a complaint with the Bambalapitiya police about his missing brother.
