Minister Wimal Weerawansa continued his fast into its second day today opposite the UN office in Colombo demanding the abolition of the UN Expert Panel appointed by Ban Ki Moon.

According to Weerawansa’s relatives in the area, the Minister’s health condition had slightly deteriorated since yesterday and medical specialists were on standby to give him medical assistance.

Meanwhile members of the Patriotic National Movement are to hand over a petition to the Russian Embassy in Colombo today seeking the Russian government’s intervention to use its Veto powers in the UN Security Council to force UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to change his decision on the appointment of the UN Panel. Judging from the majority of the comments Sri Lankans do not care two hoots about you, While you are at it , why not get your hooligan colleague from Kelaniya to join you as well

Senior Citizen Friday, 09 July 2010 06:05 AM

What a JOKE "medical specialists were on standby to give him medical assistance" when he was supposed to fast unto death. It is best to let him have his wish.

    ranga Friday, 09 July 2010 06:05 AM

Do we have medical teams standing by when the poorest of poor go on hunger strike not for political gains but due to the inability of buying even 100 grams of rice?

    PARAMANATHAN.K Friday, 09 July 2010 06:12 AM

During the 60's when Tamil leaders of that era carried out "sathya graha" a non violent protest in Galleface, the government unleashed brutal assault on them using the thugs and goons. The rest is history and the future will be a mystery.

    Defender Friday, 09 July 2010 09:01 AM

WW, you are a True Hero.
May the blessings of Dalada be with you!!

    SathaDekak Friday, 09 July 2010 06:18 AM

In the end there will be some big shot or clergy pleading with him to abandon his fast and he will reluctantly agree.

    DHA Friday, 09 July 2010 06:21 AM

Definitely he will feel the hunger cos these people never would have experienced a think called hunger in their lifetime...!!!...for a poor man this sight would be a real joke since they hardly have a meal a day.....!!!...

    meshach Friday, 09 July 2010 06:22 AM

Its supposed to be a fast until death therefore why medical teams? after some time the guy will pretend to faint & will be taken away in ambulance & treated, thereafter the death fast will be called off.. but who knows if he was eating up during the night??

    Freeman Friday, 09 July 2010 06:22 AM

Wimal will 'faint' tomorrow and the medical team will rush him to the hospital. We all know what happens to his hunger strike after that!

If one day fasting by Wimal Weerawansa can cause health problem, think about the hundreds and thousands of Sri Lankans stravation for years. Wimal cannot become a hero overnight.

    PW Friday, 09 July 2010 06:51 AM

    Roshan Friday, 09 July 2010 05:30 AM

If you eat moderately then your health will not be deteriorated so fast, but if you eat heavily and rich food, this is possible.
