The main opposition UNP said today that they had suspicion whether the removal of Mervin Silva from his position was only a mere attempt by the government to quell the public protest over his misconduct.

Addressing a press conference, UNP General Secretary MP Tissa Attanayake urged the government to initiate legal action against Mr. Silva without any further delay for his involvement in the breach of law by tying a public servant to a tree.

“In this incident, Mr. Silva has violated the law. He has to be punished legally. The mere removal of his portfolio will not serve the purpose. We suspect the whether the government was genuine in this case. Had Mr. Silva been stripped of his position, his security and other facilities should also have been withdrawn,” Mr. Attanayake said.

He said, “Earlier, there were many cases related to the misconduct of the Minister. But, the government did not take action. We do not whether the government will react to this case in the same manner.”

Not only had he flouted the law previously, on many occasions but also defied court orders. So even if legal charges are pressed on him, it won't matter.

No need to suspect. The intelligent masses know that there is no bona-fide in his removal. They cant fool the general public of this country. Only they get fooled.

What if he follows the footsteps of his colleague and start a fast-un-to death campaign (with saline) at Kiribatgoda junction? Who will go and offer him water this time?

Has IGP removed his security as he 's a normal MP now?
Whether legal action will be taken against him?
I think this is an eye wash.
