The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), while informing Court yesterday that it had banned a number of pornographic websites that allegedly feature local men and women, said that they were unable to provide details of people who operate such pornographic websites as they usually originate from overseas.

Submitting a letter before the Colombo Fort Magistrate, the TRC further informed Court that it could seek the assistance of the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) if it needed such facts. The TRC further informed Court that it had taken measures to ban hundreds of porn sites in Sri Lanka.

On a previous occasion, the Colombo Fort Magistrate, Ms. Lanka Jayaratne, had directed the TRC to submit a report regarding the persons who operate pornographic websites in accordance with a list provided by the Children and Women’s Bureau.

The Children and Women’s Bureau had observed that pornographic material found on the web could easily induce children, young people and adults to sexual crimes. The Bureau further told court that they were conducting investigations and would take legal action against anyone found guilty under the provisions of the Obscene Publications Act No 22 of 1983.

yes. sex is not a crime as long as the people are adults. so porn should not be banned. but if anyone is caught with child porn they should be punished harshly

Watching porn without a chance for real sex might lead to deviations / sex crimes... so watch out... (or legalize prostitution..)

If the government in all its wisdom legalizes controlled prostitution and escort girls and guys. We will probably not have sex crazed maniacs running a round called grease devils. All of humanity has a sex drive and young people and adults should be given the freedom to make have recreational sex. Studies show it will bring down frustration in men and women. I agree children should be protected. The only way to do this is introduce sex education in school. Do not mix religion with human needs and wants.

Trying to police the world. In the true traditions of the Buddhist philosophy, educate the people not to use these site. Internet is worldwide and becoming the culture of the world. What is good for one country is not good for another.

My idea and I strongly believe government has to go easy with all sex and adult materials except child or minor sex incidents.
If Srilanka's main income going to be tourism, that would be necessary.
