Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has been forced to seek international assistance to find a political solution to the national issue as all its efforts to come to a deal with the respective governments have failed, its leader R. Sampanthan said yesterday.

“We are being told not to go to India and not to go to Washington to seek help but we have been trying to find a solution locally until January this year, but there had been no favorable response from the Sri Lankan government,” he said speaking during a ceremony that was organized by his party to commemorate the late Federal Parry Leader S. J. V. Chellvanayagam at Katiresan hall said.

Mr. Sampanthan recalled that TNA were engaged in seven rounds of talks with the present government but the latter did not respond to their request for an acceptable solution. He said the government failed to respond positively for a solution based on a united Sri Lanka despite the assurance given that whatever agreement reached ay the bilateral talks with the government would be the basis for the discussions at the proposed Parliamentary select committee.

He recalled that the present government had been giving assurances since 2006 but had not failed to deliver them.

Mr. Sampathan said the proposals which the APRC committee came up with had been swept under the carpet while suggestion made by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) for a accepted solution for the national issue with maximum devolution had also been thrown away by this government.

He also pointed out that concessions reached in 1995, 1997 and in 2000 during the tike of President Chandrika Kumaratunga and also the agreements reached during the peace talks in 2012 were also thrown away by the respective governments. (Yohan Perera)

If one travels across Sri Lanka, east to west, and north to south of Sri Lanka, there is no question that the GOSL is doing her best to develop the country. Once the network of roads are completed - most of the bridges and culverts are almost complete - the country will develop beyond recognition. The Government does not have a magic wand to transform the nation overnight.

We as Budhists know that there are biengs called Gods..Therefore they respect Gods & They offer merits to Gods by doing Bodhi Poojas & through other religous activitis. Please do not talk about facts that you do not really aware. Budhists & Hindus are two communities who were sharing thier life styles from good old days. As such these things will not be honoured by Inter'al communitites as U wish. attain the real probelm & try to suggest better ideas.

It seems that problem is with TNA and its ideolgy and not with successive governments.
Even if you negotiate for next 1000 years, srilanka is not prepared to give eelam.
Better to set it up in Tamil Nadu or keep on dreaming destroying more and more innocent thamils.

    raj Friday, 27 April 2012 04:53 PM

then who is going to be trusted as a serious partner to negotiate, is it Karuna?

Behind all the promises made by the majority ruled governments of Sri Lanka, nothing constructive have been done for peaceful living of all the Sri Lankans.
Festering religious/ethnic/racial differences does not help the country to prosper.
What are the suggestions by sensible Sinhalese to solve the racial problems.

An acceptable solution cannot be found with a raceist chauvinist govt. TNA must form a united front with SLMC & CWC & continue the strugle. With their confused history, if only they realise they r descendats of SOUTH iNDIAN kERALITES (MALAYALESE) from where they copied the so called Kandyan saree, there may be better unity with Tamils. Budhism their religion is actually a phylosophy & they pray the Hindu Gods - Ganapathy, Skanda & Pathini. Politicians must point out these realities & then maybe there will be unity between Tamils & Singalese.

    jegath Friday, 27 April 2012 01:04 AM

I wish people who shout against this sampanthan's views, should born as a minority in their next birth!!

Well, it was our Colonial Masters who Took the North & the East and gave it to Us the Majority to rule; without any Protection for the minority; in 1948. They are responsible and have to answer for the holocaust.

Most of the people trying to hide the ethnicity and try to come in Sinhala names. They themselves undermine their race and religion.

    ind Friday, 27 April 2012 07:58 AM

Then go to TN. We don't care.

    ANURA Friday, 27 April 2012 08:11 AM

Mr. Sampanthan, there is no point in talking to foreign governments regatding our national problem. How can you solve this question by talking to foreign govt. without talking honestly to concerned parties in Srilanka. Please do not try to play the Tamil diaspora tricks now.Because you are definitely not the sole representative of tamil speaking people in srilanka. You represent LTTE like before. Very sad indeed for Tamil people.

    THIVAAN Friday, 27 April 2012 02:23 AM

Leader S.J.V .Chellvanayagam Said GOD Save Tamils.

You have made a valid point KK , yet you got many thumps down, i dont know why?

    I Hussein Friday, 27 April 2012 08:30 AM

Are u a champika/gota fan ind? Thats not the solution mate. We have a burning issue here, its time we have solved it. But there are many pessimistic, narrow minded, negative, introvert people sitting in the parliament who mislead and misleading us for the past 6 decades. All communities paid and paying heavily for their sins.

wmal perera Friday, 27 April 2012 08:36 AM

TNA was the proxy for LTTE, and now they are the proxy to the Tamil diaspora, for free travel and other perks.they are only talking of aspirations, each individual has his/her own aspirations which a govt would not be able to solve at any cost. The funny part is that they do not spell out what the aspirations are, but the public know the aspirations of TNA by their talk and movements.

    Sakthivel Friday, 27 April 2012 08:55 AM

This is what Tamils need to do, Politics is more powerful weapon.

    Sena Friday, 27 April 2012 08:51 AM

Definitely you are living in CMB or abroad. Your kids are in UK, AUS, Canada... . You live in peace and preach war to the others! You say the govt. is racist. But look at your own words..."... descendants of...".
    YOUR mindset is racist.

    Saskia Friday, 27 April 2012 09:07 AM

Nobody expect that Eelam will be given by Srilanka. Instead everyone expect to get the Eelam using international support. It will not take 100 years at all.

    cxcb Friday, 27 April 2012 09:04 AM

not sure any Sinhalese voted for TNA ??

    Sena Friday, 27 April 2012 09:08 AM

Only the mad men like Sampanthan are left. Don't forget, the LTTE killed more Tamil politicians than Sinhala politicians. They killed all opponents and repressed the democratic culture. This is the biggest problem we ALL, in particular Tamils in SL have. For some time we will have to deal with these LTTE creatures. All democratic parties should realize this and help rebuild a democratic culture in SL, in particular in the north. The army can not do this.

    patriotic Friday, 27 April 2012 09:09 AM

when will this guy kick the bucket

    lal Friday, 27 April 2012 08:57 AM

Sampathan has to realise that many see him as a yesterday's racist terrorist sympathiser, and cannot be trusted as a serious partner to negotiate a settlement. He is yet to rehabilitated, so mind the words when talking.

    paths Saturday, 28 April 2012 01:18 AM

international presure is required on SL to give more meaningful devolution of powers to a merged N & EAST Council. A separate state - EELAM - is otherwise inevitable backed by USA & other european countries.

suren soysa Saturday, 28 April 2012 01:38 AM

All Sinhalese & Muslims live happily without Police & Land powers, why can not Tamils do so. Are the Tamils a privileged lot?

    Samba Friday, 27 April 2012 04:27 AM

How many weeks exactly do you mean by few?

buffaloa citizen Friday, 27 April 2012 09:34 AM

    But isnt that the truth!!!

    SidathB Friday, 27 April 2012 04:13 AM

TNA nor Sampanthan never made any genuine attempt to have a sollution. But had been opportunitsts and selling slogans on communal lines.
Upto the finish off of LTTE they had been on LTTEs side all the time justifying it's action.
Its high time they changed their stance and request / demand an objective based solution rather than communal based Western compiled one.

    Rohan Friday, 27 April 2012 10:03 AM

Tamil Nadu is the only answer. Try TN Sam.
