TNA forced to seek int’l help: Sampanthan

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has been forced to seek international assistance to find a political solution to the national issue as all its efforts to come to a deal with the respective governments have failed, its leader R. Sampanthan said yesterday.

“We are being told not to go to India and not to go to Washington to seek help but we have been trying to find a solution locally until January this year, but there had been no favorable response from the Sri Lankan government,” he said speaking during a ceremony that was organized by his party to commemorate the late Federal Parry Leader S. J. V. Chellvanayagam at Katiresan hall said.

Mr. Sampanthan recalled that TNA were engaged in seven rounds of talks with the present government but the latter did not respond to their request for an acceptable solution. He said the government failed to respond positively for a solution based on a united Sri Lanka despite the assurance given that whatever agreement reached ay the bilateral talks with the government would be the basis for the discussions at the proposed Parliamentary select committee.

He recalled that the present government had been giving assurances since 2006 but had not failed to deliver them.

Mr. Sampathan said the proposals which the APRC committee came up with had been swept under the carpet while suggestion made by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) for a accepted solution for the national issue with maximum devolution had also been thrown away by this government.

He also pointed out that concessions reached in 1995, 1997 and in 2000 during the tike of President Chandrika Kumaratunga and also the agreements reached during the peace talks in 2012 were also thrown away by the respective governments. (Yohan Perera)

Only the mad men like Sampanthan are left. Don't forget, the LTTE killed more Tamil politicians than Sinhala politicians. They killed all opponents and repressed the democratic culture. This is the biggest problem we ALL, in particular Tamils in SL have. For some time we will have to deal with these LTTE creatures. All democratic parties should realize this and help rebuild a democratic culture in SL, in particular in the north. The army can not do this.

TNA was the proxy for LTTE, and now they are the proxy to the Tamil diaspora, for free travel and other perks.they are only talking of aspirations, each individual has his/her own aspirations which a govt would not be able to solve at any cost. The funny part is that they do not spell out what the aspirations are, but the public know the aspirations of TNA by their talk and movements.

If one travels across Sri Lanka, east to west, and north to south of Sri Lanka, there is no question that the GOSL is doing her best to develop the country. Once the network of roads are completed - most of the bridges and culverts are almost complete - the country will develop beyond recognition. The Government does not have a magic wand to transform the nation overnight.

An acceptable solution cannot be found with a raceist chauvinist govt. TNA must form a united front with SLMC & CWC & continue the strugle. With their confused history, if only they realise they r descendats of SOUTH iNDIAN kERALITES (MALAYALESE) from where they copied the so called Kandyan saree, there may be better unity with Tamils. Budhism their religion is actually a phylosophy & they pray the Hindu Gods - Ganapathy, Skanda & Pathini. Politicians must point out these realities & then maybe there will be unity between Tamils & Singalese.

TNA nor Sampanthan never made any genuine attempt to have a sollution.But had been opportunitsts and selling slogans on communal lines.
Upto the finish off of LTTE they had been on LTTEs side all the time justifying it's action.
Its high time they changed their stance and request / demand an objective based solution rather than communal based Western compiled one.

But there are many pessimistic, narrow minded, negative, introvert people sitting in the parliament who mislead and misleading us for the past 6 decades.
