The Batticaloa Magistrate has ordered Batticaloa Parliamentarians P. Ariyanenthiran, S. Yogeshwaran and Selvarasa as well as two other officials to appear in court over a protest held in the town last week.

The summons was issued after the Batticaloa police filed a case in Court over the protest organized by unemployed graduates in Batticaloa last week against the government without seeking prior approval from the police.

The police told Court today that the protestors were not arrested at the time as it would have caused tensions in the area.

Why can't the police arrest any body who protests without prior approval in this areas? Are police offices still afraid of them? Why can't they act bravely as they did in galle a few days ago, and even keeping JVP(DNA) MPs in custody.

In this instance order from above has come a bit too late. Tension in north is different from tension in south.

Even though the protest was without permission, there was no bad situation for using tear gas! So, there's a question - who creates the bad situation?
