Several roads in Colombo were flooded because of heavy rains and there was traffic congestion on most of the roads, police said.
They said Horton Place, Imbanwala Junction, Cotta Road, Nelum Pokuna Mawatha, Armour Street,Thunmulla and Castle Street opposite Devi Balika Vidyalaya were under water.

This happens every time it rains and people are stuck for hours. Is this too big a problem for our engineers to solve?

I THINK MOST OF OUR CIVIL ENGINEERS HAVE ONLY THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE, THEY ARE NOT CONVERSANT WITH THE PIRATICAL ISSUES,IN SHORT THEY ARE LIKE PARROTS.

One of the more common reasons for flooding in urban areas is the resudebts gardens being concreted over for ease of maintenance. Also, our drainage system is the one we inherited from the British and it is hardly maintained let alone improving it. Also, most areas do not have garbage collection and residents simply dump them by the roadside.

Without waiting for the government to solve the problem, I suggest people to use boats during rainy days. Politicians can use speed boats because they are always busy and wasting one minute is like wasting one year for them.

The present roads in Colombo was not built by qualified civil engineers. It was built by informed unqualified labours whose chief have not even passed the GCE (AL) examination. The parks and pavements was paved and now the rain water is not socked in. This is the curse when the country is run by unqualified and unskilled people. You do not need qualifications to do a good job. Both Bill Gates and Steve Jobs have no university degrees and alphabets behind there name.

Stop blaming our past rulers and the LTTE for any of our failures, especially to the infrastructures in Colombo. The government had enough time to plan, but instead planned how to grab the public money.
