Protest in Ampara over mosque issue

The people in Kalmunai, Samanthurai, Akkaraipattu, and Saindamaradu areas in the Ampara district closed shops today to protest the prevailing crisis over the mosque in Dambulla sacred area.

All activities in government institutions and banks came to a halt and business establishment put up shutters.

The breakdown of public transport services resulted poor attendance in government institutions in the Ampara town as well. Police stepped up security in the area, but no incident of violence was reported. (Pix and Tex byWasantha Chandrapala)

Non So called Muslim government do not tolerate any other religion. We tolerate other religions. You can build mosque but not in our holy places.

.Indeed we are all sri lankans who should rise beyond these differences to look at other things beneficial to our country.

Indeed all religions are there to be used to inculcate discipline in us and not to fight against each other .we are all sons of one mother and father .Lets leave which is right or wrong aside .Indeed lord buddha has spoken about the last coming of the great " maihtree " prophet muhammed the great and has told us to foilow his instructions.

Even some muslims glorify him which is not what he insrtucted he instructed that we are all the creation of one and only creator who befits glory and praise.

Also religions had preached to respect others view points too
so lets us all stand for it

Dear people we should refrain from abusive and poor use of language . Yes, Sri Lanka is not either a Sinhalese nor a muslim country , see that's why

its called the ' Democratic socialist republic of Sri lanka" , by no means does it serve one religion or race .

Hence we should seek to rectify things in a peaceful manner, and find the true culprit who initially master planned such a conflict !.

All the ppl who have commented about Arab countires not tolerating any other religion, please note: There are so many churches in Dubai, where I live. They even let us build a big church in the heart if the state in Deira. People here come from so many countries and they practice so many religions and respect one another. I wonder why Lankans are so blind and wanna harrasse people with regard to their religions. We are "Lankan Lions" not Sinhala Lions or Muslim Lions or Tamil Lions!! Pathetic... indeed!!

Bro. Naim, I agree with all what you have said, excepting that this is not the only isolated incident. There have been many of such incidents after the massacre of Muslims in 1915. There is insufficient space here to write all those. The real situation is that the small number of Sinhala-Buddhist extremist elements have taken control of the country and they dictate terms to the majority to the Sinhales and the Govt. and totally disregard their own Buddhist Principles and the Laws of the country. For their own advantage they easily provoke the majority Sinhalese to act against others communities. So it is necessary that through peaceful demonstrations we highlight the truth and make the majority Sinhalese aware to the threat posed by the extremists to the peace of the country.

Please stop this hatred arguments. Dear Muslims, don't blame the Sinhalese. This is an isolated incident caused by few. I am sure 99% of the Sinhalese will not approve this incident and they will not approve the behaviour of the Monks involved. This is not teachings of Budisum. Muslims should accept the fact that we have been given enough freedom to practise our religion in Sri Lanka. Islam says to respect other religions and their leaders. Please follow prophet's way by performing pryers, supplications and fasting. The Hurtals and demonstrations will do any thing.
