The Bribery Commission which is investigating 400 complaints received against politicians and government officials said they had gathered assets through various malpractices or through links with the underworld.
A top officer of the Bribery Commission said there were 32 politicians among them. He said the government officials can own assets and properties but they are bound by law to reveal the sources of income or assets. He also said such officials should send reports annually to their chiefs about the assets they possessed. (Sujith Hewajulige)
