Police record statement from Ranatunge

The Welikada Police OIC recorded a statement from Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga in connection with the complaint that he had assaulted a Rajagiriya resident.

Mr. Ranatunge in his statement said he had at no time gone to Rajagiriya, Melwatte for any private or official purpose on the mentioned date.

He said he would take legal action against the person who made a false complaint against him.

In a police complaint W.G. Piyasena said Chief Minister Ranatunga had assaulted him with a cricket bat.
