    RESIT!!!!!!

    Pscho Sunday, 21 October 2012 05:27 AM

your wedding day had been worse and divorced day was better one in your calender So, do not consider all days same.

    Hussain Saturday, 20 October 2012 04:05 PM

I could never understand why one day is better or worse than the next. After all the world carries on with the Internationally accepted Gregorian calendar decreed by Pope Gregory in 1582. The motivation for the Gregorian reform was that the Julian calendar assumes that the time between vernal equinoxes is 365.25 days, when in fact it is presently almost 11 minutes shorter. The discrepancy results in a drift of about three days every 400 years. At the time of Gregory's reform there had already been a drift of 10 days since Roman times, resulting in the spring equinox falling on 11 March instead of the ecclesiastically fixed date of 21 March, and moving steadily earlier in the Julian calendar. So its all man made dates.

Better to have holidays erveryday and let Govt decide which days people have to work. We are world leaders in holidays and we must keep thinking of new ways to retain our leadership.

Ayesha Arambepola Friday, 19 October 2012 03:52 PM

Respect other religion and their rituals an customs, this is a multiple religious, multi lingual country, you must learn to live peacefully with others, only then this country will become peaceful, sarcastic comments will demean otherwise a decent human. Do not look down upon a community which is different from your community.

Friday is not a holiday always, that means one cannot consider it a long week end, Monday is also a holiday, hence the announcement is valid subject to sighting of moon and for legal purposes!

    Bushel Friday, 19 October 2012 12:05 PM

It is quite obvious saturday is any way a holiday. By declaring it government is trying to score a mark from muslim community that is free of cost.

Prasad: In aussie land unlike in Sri Lanka there are only 10 public holidays for the year, no poya holidays nor payment of overtime for public servants. That's why it is one of the richest countries in the world.

    Kulathilaka Friday, 19 October 2012 11:11 AM

    DCL Friday, 19 October 2012 10:21 AM

Yes, I have worked 10 years in Japan and 4 years in Abu Dhabi. In those countries no mid-week holidays like in Sri Lanka which disrupts productivity of the country!

    prasad Friday, 19 October 2012 09:14 AM

Have you ever worked in so called other countries??

Don't show your stupidity ! Those countries have higher holiday leave for employees than 14 days (+7).

Dont put SL down always !!

    make Friday, 19 October 2012 08:33 AM

what idiots! Saturday is anyway a Public holiday!

    Todler Friday, 19 October 2012 07:57 AM

Cancelling a Holiday is good. The Joke is that of trying to re-iterate something obviious, the Saturday as bank and public holiday. Possible effect is that there could be in leau holiday from banks some where down the line.

    Mahadenamuttha Friday, 19 October 2012 08:05 AM

Ratagiya Eththo Friday, 19 October 2012 07:06 AM

I thought Saturday in any case a public and bank holiday in Sri Lanka!! What does this announcement mean??

    Gregory Friday, 19 October 2012 07:01 AM

Cancelling of Holidays at the last moment is in very poor taste

    SAM Friday, 19 October 2012 06:55 AM

muslim hunter Friday, 19 October 2012 06:44 AM

    warElephant Friday, 19 October 2012 06:37 AM

October 27th is anyway a holiday.

    N. Bandara Friday, 19 October 2012 06:31 AM

even non moslems would have made arrangements to go on holiday and now all plans have to be changed.

    S, Fernando Friday, 19 October 2012 06:27 AM

This doesn't make any sense. The Saturday (27) is a customary public holiday.
