While advising against private agents charging fees for assistance with visa applications to Norway, the Norwegian Embassy in Colombo said that it had decided that no more work permits would be granted for the time beingfrom certain countries including Sri Lanka.

Issuing a statement, Deputy Chief of Mission Jon Otto Brodholt said that many of these agents, who charge exuberant fees for their services, give incorrect and misleading information about the procedures, fees and documentation required to obtain permits as skilled job seekers in Norway. They also seem to give incorrect information about the actual job possibilities in Norway.

“The Norwegian Ministry of Labour has decided that no more work permits will be granted for the time being. This is due to the high number of applications and a need for more information about the qualifications and the documentation presented by skilled job-seekers from certain countries, Sri Lanka included.”

The statement also said that for any other visas to Norway VFS Sri Lanka located in the World Trade Center is the only center authorized by the Norwegian Embassy to receive application forms. All applications for visas to Norway should be submitted to VFS which will forward them to The Embassy. Applicants are advised to use the information and checklist at the Embassy's website and follow the instructions about how to register their application online.

Potential applicants may call the Embassy’s Visa Inquiry telephone number (011) 3168865 or 3168866 between 11 am and 12 noon Monday to Thursday if they are in need for any further information regarding the application procedures, use of agents or application fees, it added.

    Really??
Most other consulates started this a long time ago due to these reasons, strange that they only realized the possible security issues only now.

Norway finally realizing they have been taken for a ride by bogus asylum and job seekers. Local authorities must take action against those submitting false documents because of them even the genuine traveler faces so much difficulty to get a visa.

It was the Norwegian peace keeping force that due to their actions dragged the war to such a length while they stayed in 5 star hotels and enjoyed the life of Riley. It was right of President Rajapaksa to kick this layabouts out of Sri Lanka and end the war. What I do not understand is why charges have not been brought on the Norwegian peace keeping force and why on earth is Sri Lanka hosting the Norwegian Embassy?

    Hussain Friday, 26 October 2012 04:52 PM

Norway is full of LTTE Tamils, Serves them right for their open door policy for LTTE Tamils in the past. Now there are Tamil ghettos all over Oslo and they resent it.

    Ashan Friday, 26 October 2012 03:52 PM

What nonsense this has been going on in a mass scale for about 10 years and now they decide to do this? Many people have sold their houses and land to pay for these, the agents who charged rediculous amounts should be identified and severly punished.

Dalu Banda Friday, 26 October 2012 03:05 PM

It appears that Norway understood the reality that they cannot achieve the goal whatever the investment they made in this country. Perhaps they would be thinking of the Myanmar as a vulnerable target.

Calistus Jayatilleke Friday, 26 October 2012 03:15 PM

Obviously, they have no more vacancies left for Tigers.

    Hussain Friday, 26 October 2012 03:09 PM

Norway have enough Tamils. There are areas of Oslo like ghettos where Tamils have taken up residence to the horror of the indigenous population, one of these days there would be a back lash against them.

Wonder what the big deal in submission of forged documents to these embassies. They are the ones who encouraged ppl to submit false identification papers, stating that ppl who wanted to flee from SL did not have a choice to travel on the OWN docs as it was impossible to leave the country. Now they are eating humble pie... Call it recession...

You reap what you sow..... Brace for more in years to come. Face the music and we'd be the audience enjoying pop corn...

    terror Friday, 26 October 2012 02:18 PM

Only now Norway realised that all the LTTE Terrorist are heading there way.....

Big Ears Friday, 26 October 2012 01:48 PM

Oops, on a black list. Over to you Mr.Google.

    Curious Friday, 26 October 2012 01:58 PM
