The Military denied reports about the presence of US Special Forces in Sri Lanka.

Military spokesman Nihal Hapuarachchi said there was no American or any foreign force in the island at the moment.

A top Pentagon Commander has said that US Special Forces teams are stationed in Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Maldives as part of counter-terrorism cooperation.

However the Army has invited four countries to come with eight-man teams comprising of 68 foreign servicemen attached to elite Special Forces along with 2500 of our servicemen for its annual ‘Comoran Strike’ SEAL (Sea, Air and Land) training exercise which is to be held in September to enhance the striking capabilities especially in amphibious warfare operations.

The training is focused on improving decision making, commanding and efficiency in deciding command capabilities at a given situation. (Supun Dias)

    Renu Saturday, 03 March 2012 05:54 AM

Fact is that there are US servicemen here how ever much the Army wants to say otherwise. Why should US lie

    faqi Saturday, 03 March 2012 06:41 AM

If not for the USA & their sacrifice over 60 years ago by its young men & women,  that saved Asia,  from a ruthless, militaristic, nation , who thought the rest of Asia should be taken into SLAVERY,  you would be writing today  in Japanese in slave conditions. Think about that?. Read a bit of history and ask older Singaporeans, Malaysians and other south east Asians, how they were treated and many worked to death in camps.

    faqi Saturday, 03 March 2012 06:56 AM

Why should an high ranking American Admiral lie to Congress?
He would be booted out immediately if he lied to the US Congress.

    KD Saturday, 03 March 2012 07:26 AM

Yeah coming soon, just like Eelam is around the corner.

Mid wicket Saturday, 03 March 2012 08:37 AM

    gamunu Saturday, 03 March 2012 10:38 AM

This information is surprising to many Sri Lankans in & abroad. Why it is that presence of US troops in a non - aligned country like Sri lanka.

Govt. & other leaders have to explain. In India, the Communist party of India has asked PM, Mr. Mahonan Singh, about US troops presence in India.

Why are our opposition parties silent on this important matter.

    Jegan Saturday, 03 March 2012 02:37 PM

More like "peace" was around the corner!
