“I have no intention to be the Opposition’s common candidate,” said SLFP general secretary and Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena at a media briefing at SLFP headquarters on Darley Road on Wednesday.

He said no one from the Government ranks would join the Opposition, but those in the Opposition were getting ready to join the Government.

He said so when a journalist asked him whether he was to be the Opposition’s common candidate. “Anyone can join the government, and the Opposition is now proving that they are yet to select a person who could come close to President Mahinda Rajapaksa,” he said.(Dasun Rajapaksa)

No one will like to cross over as long as RW is the leader of the UNP and the Opposition. This is common sense. Only lunatics will want to join the UNP in the state it is in today. A good example is the behaviour of Mr. Wedding.

No one should think empires and emperors lasts for ever. History has shown even the strongest and confident rulers get destabilized. The race cannot be written off until the last day. many a thing can happen between the cup and the lip. UNP can have a transformation and 1.4 million hardcore UNPers can come to the poling booth in waves. But that transformation is in waiting!!!

RW was adamantly holding hard to the leadership of the UNP and as Leader of the Opposition. He didnt want to step down and give another a chance. Now at the last moment he is backing out of the Presidential race and anyone contesting will not have time to prepare thus giving MR a walkover. How foolish and selfish via DM Android App
