The gas prices will not increase from midnight today but will remain unchanged as all the taxes on gas will be removed, Minister of Trade Johnston Fernando said.

Minister Fernando said the President had allowed all the taxes amounting to Rs. 195 per cylinder and the tax component per kilogram of gas Rs. 15.60, to be waived.

“The Laufs gas company has requested an increase of Rs 235 although we are trying to manage it with the removal of taxes,” Minister Fernando said.

Litro gas has not sent a letter of request for a revision in their gas prices, although they are owned by the Government they will request based on a thin profit margin since they will have to survive in the market, Minister Fernando said.  (Sumaiya Rizvi)
