The juvenile court in Battaramulla today issued an order to the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) to ban access to porn websites via mobile phones with effect from today, sources at the Police Women and Child’s bureau told Daily Mirror online.
The juvenile court Magistrate Dulani Amarasinghe ordered the Police Women and Child’s bureau to hand over a list of 300 pornographic websites to the TRC to be banned as the initial step.
According to sources the Police Women and Child’s bureau told the Court that banning indecent hoardings and publications or websites via the internet alone did not serve any purpose as long as there was no ban on access to porn via mobile phones.
Last May a complaint was lodged by a parent that his child was able to access porn sites via the mobile phone including sites banned by the government on the internet in Sri Lanka.
The Children’s Court had then ordered the Police Women and Child’s bureau to seek the assistance of mobile phone companies on how porn sites accessed via mobile phones can be restricted or blocked.
Internet Service Providers and mobile companies have now been advised to implement the ban as a result of the court order issued today. (Daily Mirror online)

This is indeed a good move. Better than if the kids were banned from using mobile phones.

Isn't it better to compel service providers to introduce a "minors mobile package" barring internet access, so that minors can get the benefit, without the evil!

What does the price of a mobile phone got to do with irresponsible usage? I'm sorry, but this comment stinks of jealousy

research shows that only about 10% of the internet is pornography. you want to ban minors from benefiting from modern technology because SOME use it in a wrong way? This type of old fashioned thinking has always been there, i'm sure my grandmother thought the same thing about luxaries such as electricity at home.
