The Chief Prelate of the MIhintale Rajamaha Vijharaya Ven. Namalweva Rathnasara Thero has been suspended by the Malwathu Chapter with immediate effect. The Chief prelate has been accused of child molestation.

The Mahanayaka of the Malwathu Chapter Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sumangala Thero in a letter to the Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs has informed the Commissioner General about the decision taken by the council.

Ven.Walahahangunuwawe Dharmarathana Thero has been appointed as the Chief Prelate of the Rajamaha Viharaya.

There are many men in robes who need to be sacked immediately. Hope we could get some legislations passed and ensure they are sacked before they spoil the most sacred Buddhism.

Atleast some good deed. Many flaunt the law hiding behind robes, when authorities take actions they are sent home. Many examples from right around the country.

Sad story, but excellent news. It must not stop here. This must be taken to criminal courts. Life imprisonment has to be given if found guilty. Paedophiles are no better than murders. Killing a child's (or childrend's) innocence.

Their is nothing sacred in buddhism because it is not a religeon but practice. Practice the percepts of buddhism can one call himself a buddhist. In Sri Lanka so called buddhists believe in "bodhi poojas", planting buddhist statues and even wesak has become "Xmas" commercial activity with dhansalas that cater to everybody other than the poorest of the poor. This is the reason Mahayana is more closer to the teachings of Lord Buddha to Theravada, which is plain ritualistic.
