The man who is staging a protest on top of a hoarding post near Horton Place is still refusing to divulge the actual motive for his protest or step down until President Mahinda Rajapakse or any other top government official meets him.

Speaking to journalists at the site of the protest through a mobile phone a short while ago, the protestor who identified himself as ‘Rohitha’ said that his wife gave lectures in the defence establishment at one time and was protesting in order to demand redress to some of his issues.

When further questioned, the protestor said he is prepared to commit suicide if the President or the government authorities fail to meet him and give him an assurance to address his concerns.

The protestor had climbed the hoarding post in the early hours of today morning and since then has been warning to commit suicide if the President does not arrive at the scene and speak to him personally.

Several attempts by the Fire Brigade Department to convince him to stop his protest have failed. (Daily Mirror online)

Come come Soma pala, lets not make this is a racial issue. What ever happened to live and let live?

On another note, Nadarajah, there really was no reason for a bomb disposal unit.

    Cracked Wednesday, 15 September 2010 04:07 AM

I agree. We must not jump to conclusions. And while there are better ways of handling issues, sometimes you do the unthinkable when one is cornered into a place.

In all likelyhood, he is a nut job. But lets still keep an open mind.

Monkeys are our ancestors. Don't forget the past. You will see thee the consequeb=nces.

    Dough Tuesday, 14 September 2010 07:21 PM

So you think this man trying to get some attention is to be ignored yet you want everyone's attention?

It puzzles me as much as it amuses me as to how your brain works.

    Dough Tuesday, 14 September 2010 07:17 PM

If you have to ask that question I wonder where you're living.

    Dough Tuesday, 14 September 2010 07:16 PM

No, no, no... they are put to clean up the roads these days.

    Dough Tuesday, 14 September 2010 07:13 PM

You must not be living in Sri Lanka.

couldnt the government just give a false assurance to this guy as they always do during elections and at least bring him down???

    Josh Tuesday, 14 September 2010 02:20 PM

are the police so incompetent that they still couldnt get the man down even after 12 hours???

    Appuhamy Tuesday, 14 September 2010 01:27 PM

Good fun. Ohama Yan... Ohama Yan...

    Mohamed Tuesday, 14 September 2010 11:54 AM

Attention everyone. I mean the Police, Ambulance, Fire Brigade and to the General Public. Please ignore him. He will definitely come down. If he is to jump, he would not have taken the Helmet with him. Poor man must be hungry. Get some hot, hot nice Aromatic PIZZA close to his nose, but not not close. He will definitely come down. Please try this tactic or completely ignore him, then he will come down.

    Wasantha Tuesday, 14 September 2010 12:39 PM

However, MR is eagerly waiting to enter the seen after all tactics failed. See what would happen.

OZ Boy Tuesday, 14 September 2010 12:36 PM

    Not in SL

Muhandiram Imsid Tuesday, 14 September 2010 12:32 PM

Now is the time for Minister Mervyn Silva to enter the scene

    bash Tuesday, 14 September 2010 12:21 PM

Worked at the defense establishment ? now, nobody in this regime cares about people who worked there, they were important at the time of the war, now discarded by this regime

    IrajCalifornia Tuesday, 14 September 2010 12:18 PM

there are proper ways to get help not like behaving as monkeys ...!!!

Soma Pala Tuesday, 14 September 2010 12:16 PM

@NADARAJAH SETHURUPAN: why would the bomb disposal squad come there??? He's not threatening to blow up the city. Probably sick of living with idiots like you and wants MR to educate the masses on common sense and general knowledge!

    sw Tuesday, 14 September 2010 12:16 PM

Well MR had time to meet prisoners.

    citizen1 Tuesday, 14 September 2010 12:13 PM

Exactly! If MR could meet the lemonpuff-superhero who made an international spectacle of himself and the country,
why not meet this genuinely distressed person!

NADARAJAH SETHURUPAN Tuesday, 14 September 2010 12:06 PM

Why is the Bomb Disposal Unit not there?

    Dheen Tuesday, 14 September 2010 12:06 PM

A bottle of water without fail.

    citizen1 Tuesday, 14 September 2010 12:05 PM

There have been far too many suicides/attempted suicides lately. The country's instability (in almost every area) is affecting the people's mental health .

Concerned Citizen Tuesday, 14 September 2010 12:04 PM

I am sure a lot of people have varied opinions on what this young man is doing. ...but assumptions are the route cause to all evil. What if he has some genuine issues – it is better to hope and pray he comes down safely without having to die or go to prison for that matter. He may actually need some help and he has the right to that.

    A.Y.Mohamed Tuesday, 14 September 2010 12:01 PM

If MR can meet and speak to the Cardboard Hero Wimal, Why cant he meet this honest citizen who must be having a genuine grevience.

    Punde Tuesday, 14 September 2010 11:57 AM

GoSL might now ban all tall inaccessible structures to avoid this happening often...

    Hash Tuesday, 14 September 2010 11:55 AM

    Come on baby come on
