In Sri Lanka and specifically under the MR regime, one only needs to suck up to the master or simply said become a Hench-aiya (in this case hench-akka) and wash laundry for the regime.

She was never a Foreign Secretary, only an officer of the Sri Lanka Foreign Service.

She is an excellent career diplomat. When you deliver an honest and good service you create enemies too. That is how government service work. Everyone at EAM knows she is the right person for this position after retirement of Mr Amunugama.
