The Government yesterday sought supplementary allocations of Rs.5 billion to settle the expenditures for various matters, including Rs.206 million spent for the purchase of “high security protected vehicles for the use of VVIP.”

Thses supplementary allocations are also sought for the settlement of Rs.1.3 billion spent for the development projects in line with the 2014 Deyata Kirula exhibition; Rs.2.2 billion for the implementation of projects under the Divi Neguma programme and Rs.500 million to compensate owners for the acquisition of underutilised and  underperforming assets.

The other allocations are sought mostly for expenditure incurred in purchasing vehicles for various state institutions. These supplementary estimates outside the budget allocations for 2014 were presented in Parliament yesterday. (Kelum Bandara and Yohan Perera)
