The Ceylon Teachers Service Union (CTSU) said today the Advanced Level combined maths paper -2 also had discrepancies in it. Speaking to the Daily Mirror CTSU General Secrteary Mahinda Jayasinghe said question No:12 was flawed and therefor the examinations department had given an alternate question.

Earlier it was reported that the combined maths paper-1 had similar discrepancies after which the examination chief had assured that the students who attempted the question would receive full marks for it if any discrepancies were found. (Lakna Paranamanna)

Isn't there someone or a panel to check these papers and get them approved before they go for printing? Or do the professors who set them think that there is no one above them?

Professors are there only to get uni lecturers to go on continuous strikes.

Student of another stream does not have a bearing on the Mathematics stream. Think about the time wasted and the mental state of the student who attempted to do the sum. The funny part of all this is only in the new syllabus Combined Maths papers 1 & 2 all the errors are occurring. The old syllabus combined Maths papers 1 & 2 was also prepared by professors.

The Examination Dept never gave an alternate question. All the errors are happening only in the New syllabus Combined Maths Papers 1 & 2.

Simple arithmetic let alone maths is not a favorite subject of our rulers. They cannot average two Z scores, They think that buying 30 rupee share at 50 is cheap, the CB governor believes that more we borrow the richer we are, the immigration chief says that he had earned 500 million $ in 6months by charging 25$ each from less than 600,000 tourists as visa fees. Besides that they have brilliant brains.

What a mess the Education Ministry is in: cant even set an examination paper correctly and cant mark the papers correctly and give scores. Wonder why we have to have 2 Ministers and a supervising MP for this Ministry.

Prof. Vanderkoon Wednesday, 08 August 2012 02:53 PM

There are many papers that do not have problems. But when there are problems occasionally in one, that is a problem. This ituation hardly arises in other countries. Not the mental state of those who attempted it, but the imbalance that it creates is the problem.

WHY CANNOT EVERY QUESTION PAPER IS BEEN VERIFIED BY THREE EXPERTS AT SAME SITTING AND PUBLISHED , OUR IDIOTS EXPECT TO BE COAT AND TIE , THEY WANTED TO BE CALLED PROF , DR. ETC AND ROB THE CHILDREN'S EDUCATION , END OF THE DAY THEY GET PAID , THE STUDENTS ON THE STREET BEGGING.

Prof. Vanderkoon Wednesday, 08 August 2012 08:18 AM

Quite often, most students score less than the full marks for most questions they answer. Giving full marks to those who tried one question is unfair on the those who didn't attempt it or students of other streams. This is the most competitive exam in every kid's life. Now a new mechanism needs to set exam papers. You can't have wrong questions year after year because of a mistake by a professor or a typist.

    Supervisor Thursday, 09 August 2012 01:01 PM

The supervisors were not informed about any correction regarding the question No. 12 of the New syllabus Combined Mathematics II paper in any examination centre in Sri Lanka. It's a pity the students would have just wasted time on trying to do the flawed sum. When they can not do the sum their mental state get affected.

Error is not only in the Advanced Level combined maths paper but it is every where in the government sectors including in the Central Bank Annual Report.
    Bravo.........................................................
