Court order to provide SF with facilities

Colombo High Court Judge Deepali Wijesundara today ordered Welikada Prison authorities to provide all the facilities that Court asked to be provided on an earlier occasion, to jailed former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka.

The order was given when Fonseka’s lawyer informed Court that although the Court had earlier ordered the prison authorities to provide some facilities including hot water, medicine etc. to Fonseka, the authorities have yet to provide them.

This direction was given when the case related to the harbouring of army deserters was taken up today.

He was sentenced in a court martial to a 30-month jail term in September for his involvement in corrupt military deals during his tenure as Army Commander. (TFT) Pics by Nisal Baduge
