Cable car project at Lake Gregory in Nuwara Eliya

A cable car is to be constructed in Nuwara Eliya between the Gregory’s Lake Park and the Single Tree Mountain, as a tourist attraction, the Nuwara Eliya Mayor said.

The initial work of this project is expected to commence in April after conducting a feasibility study which is to be prepared with the assistance of a foreign expert who would be arriving shortly. The project is expected to be completed by March next year, said Milanka Gajanayake of MLM associates (Pvt) Limited who is undertaking the project.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) for commencement of the project, was signed at the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council on Thursday between Nuwara Eliya Mayor Mahinda Dodampegama on behalf of Municipal Council and Milanka Gajanayake, Lakshman Gunawardena and Mahesh Pieris for MLM Associates (Pvt) Limited.

The Nuwara-Eliya Mayor Mahinda Dodampegama said, the cable car project which was a 15 year dream of the Nuwara-Eliya Municipality, was very significant at a time when the Nuwara-Eliya Municipality was seeking alternative means of revenue in addition to the traditional income sources.

Madness ............. Gone will be the Idyllic Beauty of the Hill Country. Nuwara Eliya is already a shadow of its Past Glory. Visitors shud be encouraged to Trek, Walk, without contributing to the the systematic Rape of the Environment. I heard of a similar Mad Hatters Scheme proposed for World's End, I hope at least that Idea has been shot down.

Need to have Safety Legislation in place before putting this together to prevent cable cars free falling down with gravity. If not similar scenario to all other incidents. Investigations into incidents with no outcome. I will not ride on these otherwise.
