Former Colombo Mayor, Uvais Mohamed Imthiaz has returned to his previous profession of driving three wheelers. Imthiaz told Daily Mirror online that he does odd jobs during the day and drives the three-wheeler at night.

The former mayor said he no longer has a house or an income. Special Commissioner to the Colombo Municipal Council, Omar Kamil has requested the former mayor to vacate the official residence, but Imthiaz has refused to vacate the house saying he has no other house to go to.

“I will not vacate the house until the President tells me to do so. But if the authorities vacate the house, I will set up a camp outside the residence and stay there. The Chief minister and the Governor have given me permission to stay in this house,” Imthiaz said.

He also said that he intends to contest at the next Colombo Municipal Council election. (Daily Mirror online)

I think people do not know that Colombo MC was dissolved due to some corruption charges against him and other 52 councillors. He is talking like an innocent person to get the sympathy.

Why should this chap be treated differently to any other citizen of Colombo?

As far as I'm concerned, he is illegally squatting on Government property, and should be dealt with the same way all other squatters and illegal constructions in Colombo are being dealt with by the UDA.

thanks to UNP's wrong political game (as always) he became a mayor. poor guy, most importantly he didnt steal public money it seems. otherwise he will not drive t'wheels again.

Mohamed need's bit of education to teach him how the system works. I really don't know how and who appointed him as a mayor with no educational background. He should accpet the fact that he is just a citizen of the country.Only thing he know is a riding a 3 wheeler. That's why today the country is running on 3 wheels instead or 4 wheels.
