A top Sri Lankan Army commander has warned the Tamil people in the country's north to be wary of elements attempting to undermine the hard-earned peace. Speaking to the local people after distributing grants to former LTTE combatants for their rehabilitation, Jaffna Commander Maj Gen. Mahinda Hathurusinghe invited the Tamil diaspora to help the needy rather than undermining normalcy "Various groups in Tamil Diaspora are now in the process of undermining the hard-earned peace in the country. Instead of disturbing peace now being enjoyed by people of Sri Lanka, those groups must come forward to help destitute people to make their life better using money being wasted on creating dissension among communities in Sri Lanka," he said.

Hathurusinghe said as all communities in the island had suffered irrespective of ethnicity by the LTTE's campaign for a separate state, now it was the time to forget the dark era of the past and unite as one nation that is Sri Lanka.

The civil war in Lanka ended in 2009 with the defeat of the LTTE and killing of its top leadership.

In the first phase, each of some 25 of the ex-LTTE combatants released after rehabilitation were offered rupees 50,000. The balance rupees 200,000 will be granted in future.

The army also handed over a house built by the troops to a war widow. Some 84 kids of four pre-schools in Alaveddy area were given school uniforms, shoes and exercise books as New Year gifts. Another 50 students were given parcels of exercise books.

Sri Lanka is wary of the pro-LTTE Tamil diaspora domiciled in the West who the government claims are looking for an opportunity to revive the LTTE activity.(Hindusthan Times)

A doctor from Israel says: "In Israel the medicine is so advanced that we cut off a man's testicles, we put them into another man, and in 6 weeks he is looking for work.
"The German doctor comments: "That's nothing, in Germany we take part of the brain out of a person, we put it into another person's head, and in 4 week she is looking for work.
"A Russian doctor says: "That's nothing either.
In Russia we take out half of the heart from a person, we put it into another person's chest, and in 2 weeks he is looking for work.
"The Sri Lankan doctor answers immediately: "That's nothing my colleagues, you are way behind us....in Sri Lanka, about 6 years ago, we grabbed a lawyer from down south with no brain, ....we made him President of the country, and now...the whole country is looking for work!!."

what is the buissness army is having with the public after 3 years of ending the war ? why not the civil authorities give such items like school books, pencils, shoes and uniforms etc to the public ?? the country lost the peace with the invasion of army in the eighties instead to solve civil problem is continuing till today. only peace can be achieved after complete withdrawal of army from the north and east.

    mark Monday, 16 April 2012 02:34 AM

No, not again. We have no issues with our tamil brothers and hope they will not fall prey to the trouble seeking diaspora's intention to ignite the flames of war and hatred.

    raja Saturday, 14 April 2012 01:46 PM

there is a correction; you did not win peace, but you won the balle against LTTE. If there is a peace, there would be no need for peace talk with TNA, or abdctions.

    C.K. Lankaputhra Saturday, 14 April 2012 01:49 PM

    How many to warn us.

    keth Saturday, 14 April 2012 02:41 PM

Do not think the Tamils are fools. Permanent peace is depends on how you all treat them. Let them enjoy the life as sinhaleese. You are treating them as slaves thats why you are afraid of threats from out side.

    American Saturday, 14 April 2012 02:34 PM

It is time to recruit Tamils to the Army instead of talking the past...also it sound like North is still under the military control..

Ranjan Silva Saturday, 14 April 2012 02:36 PM

Yes Sir, You've touched the Raw nerve of the Issue.
    1. A Tamil has to be appointed as the Governer of North to Impliment Progress.
    2. Stop Colonisation. Let the Sinhalese or Tamils live anywhere they want to.
    3. Recognise all Minority communies as ethnic Communiity of Sri Lanka.
    Thank you.
    No more Sinhala Country.

    paths Saturday, 14 April 2012 03:33 PM

LTTE WILL REVIVE UNLES & UNTIL MAXIMUM DEVOLVED POWER THAT INCLUDES lAND & POLICE IS GRANTED TO A MERGED N & EAST. SECULAR STATE WITH ALL 3 LANGUAGES EQUAL WITH NO PRIMACY TO SINGALA WILL INSPIRE CONFIDENCE. THERE MUST BE AN ATITUDINAL CHANGE IN THE PRESIDENT TOWARDS THE TNA TO GO THE EXTRA LENGTH & FIND A SOLUTION.

    Eagle001 Saturday, 14 April 2012 07:03 PM

Ask yourselves why did Tamils go abroad? Why are there still refugee communities in India? Statistically, compared to a Singhalese, why is that a Tamil has lost more loved ones in the civil war? As I see it the future is very bleak. Prabha is only statistic, but as long as the GOSL plays games with the people of the country, there are already hundreds of Prabha's, Wijeyweera's and Fonseka's growing wanting JUSTICE. We will see for how long this game of everything is all right now is kept going.

Sri Minnal Saturday, 14 April 2012 08:28 PM

In Srilanka today we have too many speakers advising people. But do they really care about the people. Before you advice Tamils, why don't you stop abductions???

    Yuri Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:47 PM

Make Sure you are not warns by NATO. looks like you all on the way to invite NATO to this Island

    gorakaya Saturday, 14 April 2012 11:15 PM

    Well said Sir.

    Cynic Saturday, 14 April 2012 11:55 PM

Handouts are not the answer to Reconciliation. The Mindset of the people has to change. It is only the Politicians, who have the Gift of the Gab, (if nothing else) who can change the attitude of the people. The President has to give the correct Leadership for this to happen. It will not happen by itself!

    kunjan Sunday, 15 April 2012 12:06 AM

    thank you sir.Great

    ram Sunday, 15 April 2012 06:21 AM

    name itself express the mentality

    Trualf Sunday, 15 April 2012 06:04 AM

    You are right 100% Sir.

samson moses Sunday, 15 April 2012 07:01 AM

    well said,,,,,,,,,,,raja

    Nodrog Sunday, 15 April 2012 07:31 AM

Many migrated for economic reasons, nothing to do with the war and they are still trying to create disharmony between the Tamils and Sinhalese to justify their refugees status. Tamils lost more because the war was fought in Tamil areas but Sinhalese also suffered. Don't forget the Tigers also killed thousands of Tamils and recruited hundreds of youngsters which you conveniently forget. Luckily not everyone thinks negative like you.

    sanjaya Sunday, 15 April 2012 07:25 AM

Ranjan, I am sure you never lived in srilanka. That's why all your claims are wrong.

    onion Sunday, 15 April 2012 07:58 AM

You confirm militarisation of the North by the Govt. Please leave civilian advice to be given by civil administrators/leaders.
