Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara believes Virat Kohli can be the greatest cricketer after former Australia batsman Sir Donald Bradman. Bradman is widely acknowledged as the greatest batsman of all time.

“Virat is phenomenally fit. I know, and I have seen and heard of his amazing commitment and dedication to being the best that he can be, both on and off the field—physically, mentally and skillwise,” Sangakkara on The RK Show.

“He has the opportunity to become maybe the greatest after the Don,” he added.

No batsman has performed as consistently as Virat Kohli in all the three formats. When it comes to stats across formats, Virat Kohli is heads and shoulders above his contemporaries. At just 31, he has hit a staggering 70 centuries and 104 half-centuries in international cricket. With 43 tons to his name, he is second in the list of most centuries in ODIs. He is the only player in the world with average of more than 50 in all the three formats of the game.

Recently, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson had also recently heaped praise on his India counterpart. Williamson had called him a standard bearer for batting across formats.

“You can say that it was only a matter of time before he was making some strong inroads to the full international scene. At the moment, leading the way in cricket and setting the standard as a batter and breaking all these records,” Williamson said on Star Sports’ show Cricket Connected.

“A lot of that probably has to come down to his maturity, his ability to make very good decisions. Not only is he gifted with his ability and his natural ability, but you’re marrying that up with this constant drive and hunger to improve and just be better day in and day out.

“Yeah, we are fortunate to play against each other, it’s been great to meet at a young age and follow his progress and journey,” he added.( cricketaddictor)

Virat Kholi got the total package!!! Very good temperament to go with his skill set !! And good in ALL formats of the game !! The only thing that DON'T measure up is his emotions !!! He got to put his emotions UNDER a lid!!??

When you follow Virat batting, I find he's USING the technique what a baseball batsman do!, he's NOT trying to hit HARD for fast bowlers instead he MAKE contract!! 'Coz the bowler provide the power with speed of the delivery!!! Yeah!!

Sangakara, Sri Lanka has and had some of the finest cricketers in the world, including yourself. But I have never heard Indians ever praising our cricketing stars. See how Malinga was humiliatingly dropped recently from the IPL, even though he was the top baller in the IPL history. We have to come out of the “small island” mentality and feel confident and relaxed about ourselves. Let the devil take care of India.

Indians have called our players “black” dating back from the 1996 World Cup. In return we are saying good things about the Indians.

Why, Why. Sunday, 14 June 2020 06:23 AM

Sangakara is a talented batsman and a good wicket keeper, who also has class and style, which none of the Indians do have. That was why he was elected as the first non white MCC president. Indians must be feeling so jealous of Sanga’s appointment. However it is a mystery why Sanga always praising the Indians, even after loosing to them in the World Cup some years back Sanga said the “best side won “, that was not a normal reaction of any captain within minutes of loosing in the finals of a World Cup match.

Virat Kholi a great batsman!! HOWEVER, as a Test batsman OVER 7000 Runs the BEST average belongs to Aussie Steven Smith !! Smith's average of 62.84 compare to Kholi's average 53.62 and Smith have 14 less innings than kholi!! ( mind you Bradman NEVER reached 7000 runs)

Sathasivam’s stylish mastery of the wielding of the willow mesmerized cricket lovers of yore so endearingly that those Madras cricket enthusiasts still living rave about his classy batting prowess they witnessed at Chepauk Stadium seven decades ago. Sathasivam who? The greatest world class batsman Ceylon / Sri Lanka could have given the world if only they were in the Tests league. The only cricketer to have captained in three countries - Ceylon, Singapore and Malaysia. I hope DM publishes this for the benefit of today’s generation.

Remember, out 13 Test batsmen who's scored OVER 10,000 Runs, Sanga have the best average of 57.40 !!! Next best Jacques Kallis at 55.37. Sanga very modest guy, if YOU pick the BEST, Sanga is right up THERE with the top guns!!!

Batting averages are NOT what makes a player "GREAT"; it's his/her ability to "single-handedly" turn a losing match into a winning one! Herein lies a player's greatness: to come-out blazing (not only with the "bat," but also with the "ball") when "all odds" are against his Team. "Bradman won matches and test series For Australia, literally Off His Own Bat (Knight, 2011)": this is what made him the "Greatest!" As far as Sri Lanka goes the players who have CONSISTENTLY done so are: (1) Aravinda, (2) Sanath and (3) Arjuna!

I am from India and always respect players like Jayawardena, Rantunge , Sangakara, Arvind Desilve. It is wrong to say Indians don't respect Sri Lanka players. Jayawardena is the batting coach of MI

Very generous of KS...and decent of him. But as an Indian supporter, I have to concede Kohli is outclassed by Steve Smith in Tests (although Smith's involvement in cheating permanently stains him). And he has failed on 2 BIG occasions in the big World Cup stage - falling cheaply in the critical 2015 semifinal v. Australia: and in last year's semifinal v. NZ. What is the use of big chases in small ODIs, if you cannot be smart when it really counts? Also his immature behavior in the 0-2 loss in the Test series v NZ, where he also failed - where he was heard yelling (India mein dikhaaoonga)....shows he has a long way to go. India needs to win overseas to gain full respect, and prove mastery of swing in NZ and English conditions. Recently Australia have taken to doing what the Kiwis did successfully on that tour - using flattery rather than sledging to 'kill with kindness'...... and I fear that approach will work against Kohli in the upcoming India tour of Australia, if it goes ahead.

I am at a loss to understand why Bradman is still considered the world's best batsman ever. Out of the total runs of 6996 he scored, 5028 runs were against England. Apart from 37 test matches he payed against England , he played only 5 matches each against India, South Africa and West Indies. Whereas the modern day test cricketers play test matches against over 10 test playing nations at different venues all round the world. Besides modern day batsman are studied carefully by the bowlers by watching video footage and weakness are easily identified. Therefore, in my view, it's not fair to consider Bradman as the world's best batsman ever! He was a great batsman no doubt.
