Three policemen-a Sub Inspector, a Police Sergeant and a Police Constable- have been interdicted over the recent incident at a police checkpoint in Aluthgama, Police said.

An investigation had been launched by the SSP Kalutara over a video circulating on social media which shows a 14-year-old autistic boy at Dharga Town in Aluthgama being allegedly harassed by Police officers on May 25 during the curfew, the Police said.

“These policemen have been interdicted for failing to carry out their duties,” the police media division said in a statement.

The Police officers are not to be blamed. They are not mind readers to know that the boy is autistic. It is an unfortunate situation. The boys parents must take the blame as they were responsible in keeping this boy at home without loitering. Taking responsible officers away from duty just to please a certain sectors sentiments is not the answer.

You are absolutely correct. I thought so as well. Still, do the Police or any other Law enforcing officers have the right to brutally assault a minor unless he poses a threat to their life?

Well said Naim. You are very sensible. According to Lanka, the Police has all the power even to kill the minorities.
