Tax on all electric vehicles to be reduced by Rs.1 million and Rs.2.5 million import tax to be imposed on super luxury vehicles, Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera said.
He also said that a Carbon tax to be introduced for motorcycles (17 cents per day), Motor cars (Rs. 1.78 per day and buses (Rs.2.74 per day).

I hope govt will give subsidy for batteries for these electric cars. Presently most of the buyers who purchased electric cars are in a mess due to very high cost of replacement charges for batteries due to high duty.

Encourage a local business to create an electric car. VEGA already does this and we can save Rs 300 billion each year which we waste for petrol. We can build two ports like Hambantota port each year from that money.

So, is it that, at the time of carbon emission testing or renewal of revenue licence an additional amount of Rs. 62.05 for a motor cycle, Rs. 649.70 for a motor car and Rs. 1000.10 for a bus to be paid?

Elections are near. Remember RK increased tax on electric vehicles by 100% just two years ago.
