Short story writer Shakthika Sathkumara who was in remand custody was granted bail by the Kurunegala High Court today.
He was arrested under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) Act following a story published on Facebook which allegedly contained defamatory content against Buddhism.
Mr.Sathkumara was released on a cash bail of Rs. 100,000 and two sureties of Rs. 100,000 each by High Court Judge Menaka Jayasundara.
He was also ordered to report to the Polgahawela Police Station on the last Sunday of the month.
Attorney-at-law Chaminda Athukorale appeared for the suspect in the High Court. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

Is it not defaming Buddhism by action when a Monk attempts suicide - also called fasting unto death. So sad we have missed the wood for the trees.
