Over 56,000 curfew violaters arrested - 5,221 fined

A total of 56,356 persons have been arrested and more than 15,000 vehicles were taken into custody as of this morning for violating curfew since March 20, the Police said.

They said a total of 620 persons were arrested and 274 vehicles taken into custody within a 24-hour period ended at 6.00 a.m today.

According to the Police, 13,556 cases have been filed in courts while 5,221 individuals have been fined since March 18.

    NO NEED FILE COURT CASES. CURFEW MEANS EACH AND EVERY MEMBERS MUST KNOW THE RULES. PLEASE IMMEDIATELY GIVE THE FINES AND TAKE OUR THE VEHICLES FOR DEFENSE FORCES. LET THEM LEARN THE LESSON FOR FUTURE REFERENCE AND ALSO THEIR FAMILIES.

    I agree with you Sam, it saddens me to know that so many have violated the curfew. So many do not care that they are putting lives at risk.

    Sri Lanka seems to be the only country that impounds the vehicles of curfew breakers. Under waht section of the Law are these measures taken?
