Sri Lanka’s captain Angelo Mathews has been bought by Delhi Daredevils for Sri Lankan Rupees (SLR) 4.5 crore in Indian Premier auctions in Bengaluru.

Before this Mathews was a part of Delhi Daredevils squad. He did not take part in the tournament last year but this year he will be there giving out his best. Mathews will not be available for the early part of the tournament as Sri Lanka will be playing against Bangladesh at home but he is certain to play 8 games out of 14 in the tournament.

Dayawathie, Malinga opted out of Test cricket to play IPL. But others did not. That is the reason for different response.

Very happy for him. However hope that he will not think of early retirement from national duty. Money can get in to anyone's head.

    Dayawathie Monday, 20 February 2017 03:30 PM

I agree with you Saranga. What is this Crore business ?. Why don't you just say in millions or whatever ?.

    Dayawathie Monday, 20 February 2017 03:39 PM

I can see a bias in the comments of readers. When Malinga went to play IPL readers came out all guns blazingcriticising him for putting money first and country second, but when Angelo want to play in the same com[petition. most readers are wishing him well. Is it because Malinga hails from a down south poor family ?.

So why Sri Lankan Cricket is running on a lost?

    Kaboos Monday, 20 February 2017 10:35 AM

Sri Lanka Cricket release him for IPL. Replacement found.

    Labby Monday, 20 February 2017 10:45 AM

He needs to physically fit to play. Since of late Mathews has been prone to injury. Anyway let's hope he's in the DD team as a player and not as Captain. He doesn't have a positive mindset to be captain.

Good luck Angelo. Hope you recover from current injury and give a good account of yourself. Let us hope that there will be no comments like for Lasith Malinga.

    lankan Monday, 20 February 2017 05:55 PM

Good luck to him! I wish more kids are trained and make them available for international teams to get more money for them and the country!
