The Court of Appeal today declined to grant permission to the application filed on behalf of Ven. Gnanasara Thera, to file an appeal to the Supreme Court against his conviction.
The Court of Appeal was of the view that there was no legal grounds for the application.
However, the Counsel for Ven. Gnanasara Thera said an appeal will be filed directly at the Supreme Court by way of Special Leave to Appeal. (S.S.Selvanayagam)

DANGER IF PARDONED Friday, 31 August 2018 05:43 PM
With the president being appointed to BIMSTEC as Chairman - he has to think twice - further the UNHRC will also be keeping a close watch - and also will such an action be a precedence (case law ! ) for all those in yellow robes who are charged in court - and much more further, what if a priest of another religion is charged in court ?
WAS IT A SERMON GANASARA PREACHED IN FRONT OF THE JUDGE ? Friday, 31 August 2018 04:18 PM
A blatant case of contempt of court which happened right under the nose of the judge - what is there to appeal. What are these fellows aiming to gain knowing very well the seriousness of the case. Even to say - this thug had a bout of temporary insanity - no law will make the fellow go scot free. - brings me to one question - who is behind the scenes doling out the legal fees. ?

In Germany, any judge in whose courtroom a crime is committed under his / her eyes will immediately convict the perpetrator without the need for further legal proceedings.

It is a right of a fellow citizen, it can not be denied any way as humanitarian ground.
GC Saturday, 01 September 2018 07:01 AM
Response to GH:Humanitarian grounds should be applied only to people who act humanely and respect others rights. Not to someone who professes to follow a great teacher but does opposite to what the Lord Buddha preached.

Why bother that much about this convicted criminal???.
Ram Saturday, 01 September 2018 03:19 AM
If the appeal was allowed it takes time to hear the appeal.before Presidential pardon all avenues in the legal system must be tried. So he is getting closed to a Prez pardon
