External forces attempting to disrupt China-SL ties: Ambassador

Chinese Ambassador Cheng Xueyuan maintained that certain external forces are provoking unfounded speculation on joint mega-projects between Sri Lanka and China in order to disrupt the cooperation and create problems between the two countries in order to further their own interests.

Issuing a statement, the Chinese Embassy said the Ambassador has expressed these views upon meeting Speaker Karu Jayasuriya last week. At the meeting, Ambassador Cheng reiterated that China attaches great importance to its relations with Sri Lanka and stands ready to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries.

“Work on the Colombo Port City Project, the Hambantota Port as well as the economic corridors connecting Colombo to Hambantota and Kandy are progressing rapidly with our joint efforts,” he said.

Ambassador Cheng denied allegations of a military motive behind China's decision to conduct friendly and pragmatic cooperation with Sri Lanka.

Responding to this, Speaker Jayasuriya thanked China for its long-term support especially following the civil war and highlighted that Chinese President Xi's Belt and Road Initiative and the idea of building a community of a shared future for mankind have been added to the United Nations' documents several times.

The Speaker stressed that all concerned are aware of the truth behind the Hambantota Port Project, which is a commercial project undertaken between two countries rather than, as some have alleged, a case of "militarization" by China.

“There are people with extremist ideas in every country and those making unfounded speculations may have their own ulterior motives. Sri Lanka attaches great importance to cooperation with China, especially with regards to the Hambantota Port Project and the Colombo Port City Project," the Speaker said.

Who are these External Forces ? It is the deceptive Indians whose insidious plans nurtured for Sri Lanka, has been unexpectedly thwarted by the Chinese unofficially taking over as the guarantors of Sri Lankan Security, since they moved into Hambantota.

China has economically invaded Sri Lanka under the disguise of economic cooperation (which they do globally in the third world). Biggest Chinese companies are tendering every major project in Sri Lanka and bid low prices and win those projects. With the number of projects and Chinese investment increasing Chinese migrant population is also increasing. This is evident when you walk along the roads in Colombo. With the huge debt to China we have become a slave nation of China. People of this country should realize the situation. Industry leaders, academics and religious leaders should discuss the impact of this scenario on the future generation of Sri Lankan citizens. It has been proved enough that people cannot have any more hopes on the political leaders of this country after last hope of good governance failed. This is the time for people to start thinking about what is happening to the country before it is too late.

As a country we must determine our own destiny. Indeed we must build relationships with all and yet be independent thinkers forging our own future. Why is anything said about anyone to be blamed on "external forces"? Do we Sri Lankans not have the right to make our own decisions and to make our own conclusions with the facts at hand? "All" powerful countries (Western and Asian) seek to build their own empires. Any critical thinker should know what China is up to all over the world, especially in the West Philippine sea (also known as South China Sea). They have violated the rights of the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia bullied them into silence. All powerful empires grab land. Now they have placed missiles on those occupied islands and are scarring countries from sailing in international waters and flying over those occupied islands. Only time will tell when they begin dictating to us, Pakistan, Maldives and Bangladesh all countries where they have interests in our region.

China unlike India and USA never supported terrorism and terrorists in Sri Lanka. They did not use terrorism to influence countries to further their agenda. Also never interfered with internal politics.

So who are these "External Forces"? First, we Sri Lankan's are the "Internal Force!" So everyone else becomes a "External Force" including China, (India, USA) etc., etc., So how come the article makes us believe that China also has become an Internal Force? Have we given them citizenship? Voting rights? Do they pay taxes in SL? No will be the answer. We should all be thankful for countries that give us loans, help us with massive projects etc., Often people use money, smooth talk about long relationships etc., sweet talk their way and hoodwink people, just to accomplish their interests. Our politicians too are buttered when they get free trips to their countries, get treated like kings and get money into their pockets. Who knows how much passed hands when these projects were signed. For certain, Hambantota is China's for ninety-nine years. What more? How we need to have honest, wise, patriotic men and women of integrity to lead our country. I like Tilak Silva's comments. Thanks bro!.
