Let the president make use of the newly acquired powers to put an end to this kind of robberies. These are petty robbers and not terrorists. Hope the Police will catch the culprits.

    lankaputha Friday, 24 September 2010 04:20 PM

My Next question is, why the security people took this most notorious road well known for all roberries for years while there is the Negambo road with more security in place?

    sltk2004 Friday, 24 September 2010 05:15 AM

The guard should not have carried weapons if they were not going to use them. Then at least those weapons would not have fallen in to the hands of robbers.

    bash Friday, 24 September 2010 05:17 AM

I, sympathize with you, these are done by professional robbers, info from so many sources are collected. Our law is weak and protects the culprits

    Ramzeel Friday, 24 September 2010 05:19 AM

Banks are well covered by insurance for these types of robberies. However if this vehicle had strayed from the designated route the insurance will be voided.

    suwimal Friday, 24 September 2010 04:29 AM

This is an illegal robbery. Legal roberies take place on a daily basis of much higher amounts at higher places.

    Nalaka Friday, 24 September 2010 05:35 AM

To Taaro: Mate, you didn't get Suwimal's point. Read between lines and then you'll understand.

In fact, this is negligible considering how the innocent people of this county are being robbed day in day out by our beloved politicians. Long live the perpetrators!

    dilmi Friday, 24 September 2010 05:37 AM

Robbery is robbery . But there are 2 ways of doing it and 2 kinds of law for that robberies. That is the difference.

SL Ara Friday, 24 September 2010 05:43 AM

Don't worry... the king of the area Mr. Dutugemunu will take immediate actions to catch robbers and tie them up to trees....!

    kris Friday, 24 September 2010 05:54 AM

Thelangapatha road and wanawasala is infested with organized robbers and they hang around day and night. Its high time Police do some patrolling frequently in these roads.

ela kiri Friday, 24 September 2010 06:38 AM

finally, policemen have some quality job to do..

    Nandalal G Friday, 24 September 2010 06:50 AM

Don't worry. Dr.Mervin will look after this matter immediately as this has happened in his area.

    Faqi Friday, 24 September 2010 06:57 AM

This appears to be an inside job, the robbers knew too much in advance. Why did the security guards not use their firearms to protect the consignment? Why give up without a fight. What is the use of a security guards if they cannot protect the cargo.
Was there no security cameras on the vehicle?

    Mushi Friday, 24 September 2010 07:12 AM

This is not good news for the world from investment point of view for foreigners. Banks and central banks should take steps to enhance the credibility of sri lankan banks which have already suffered blows due to bogus banks frauding depositors. They should strengthen security of banks and financial companies. This is a part of economic war after 30 year terrorism.Otherwise SL could be a lawless country like Somalia.

    spark Friday, 24 September 2010 07:29 AM

He will get his share along the line. He will then pass on part of this share up the line.

    spark Friday, 24 September 2010 07:31 AM

Yeah despite a good number of them being in USA, the country still gets robbed.
