A driver of a van who arrived at the Tzu Chi National School in Hambantota to transport ballot papers was taken into custody today after fifty eight fake ballot papers were found in the van, the Hambantota Police said.
Senior Presiding Officer assigned to Itthademaliya polling station in Mulkirigala electorate has found these false ballot papers in the cabin, Hambantota District Returning Officer M.L. Bandula Harischandra said.
All of the false ballot papers found were unmarked with a remark written at the bottom of it indicating they were meant for awareness among voters, police said.
The suspect is a resident of Molakepu pathana in Tissamaharama.
Further investigations are on going.
