Counsel for the injured MP Duminda Silva informed the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today that it would take ‘at least two to three years’ for Silva to recover from his skull injury.

The Counsel made these observations when the Mr. Silva’s bail application was taken up today.

The counsel further said that a titanium plate and a cerebral mesh had been inserted into his skull after it was damaged in the October 8 shootout, in which Mr. Silva has also been named as a suspect and is now under Police custody. The case was postponed to march 15.

How can we tell that SL have democratic legal system with these kind of incidents happening? Anyone whose having a hand with the govt can do any type of crime and just be alright. No action will be taken. It's not a surprise that we were brought resolutions.

Isn't there a clause in the constitution to remove mentally incapable people from holding public office? Why are we still bearing the burden of paying him a salary? Get rid of him.

Buffaloa Citizen Monday, 11 March 2013 10:48 AM

Who is going to complain or protest. This country is full of cowards. If you start a riot like 1983, sure you can find hundreds to join to hit the minority tamils, but not this kind of brave issues.

    malkanthi Monday, 11 March 2013 11:01 AM

If he is ok then he has already started the former job, nothing for him to fear as his fosterfather is above the judiciary.

Just two days ago the counsel said that Duminda will enter politics again in a few months. This is a ploy to get the murder case postpones, may be forever, and get him off the hook.

    Sampath Monday, 11 March 2013 11:12 PM

I think the bullet bouced off his thick skull.

shiran Dissanayake Monday, 11 March 2013 11:54 PM

    CK Tuesday, 12 March 2013 07:29 AM

No, the drug addicts in the country!

    Ravi Tuesday, 12 March 2013 07:51 AM

If he requires three years to recover then why are they keeping him in the parliament by extending his leave. Why we pay poor peoples tax money for a person like him.

Yohan Perera Monday, 11 March 2013 07:25 AM

If what the counsel says is true, Sri Lanka can relax a bit knowing this thug will be quiet for 2-3 years.

Plain ole Joe Monday, 11 March 2013 06:59 AM

Just out of curiosity....who paid for his medical bill in Singapore? Was it us tax payers?

    GDJ100 Monday, 11 March 2013 06:59 AM

Amazing....why such a long time for someone who never used his head?

    hb Monday, 11 March 2013 07:08 AM

It will be a bigger waste to have him in the parliament. Hope he gets leave indefinitely!

    GP Monday, 11 March 2013 07:20 AM

World will laugh at us. Just imagine nation's law has gone to such a low level.

    Ranjit Monday, 11 March 2013 07:15 AM

If that is the case he should leave parliament.

Buffaloa Citizen Monday, 11 March 2013 07:23 AM

    Meril Monday, 11 March 2013 06:51 AM

    Anil Monday, 11 March 2013 07:55 AM

manel fonseka Monday, 11 March 2013 08:12 AM

Isn't this situation an infringement of the Franchise! Long ago his seat in Parliament should have been filled by someone else. All this time, a section of the electorate has been deprived of a parliamentary representative -- of whatever quality. Had someone like S. Nadesan QC still been alive, he would surely have gone to the Supreme Court over this. Yet I haven't seen even a whimper from legal or political circles about this anomaly. This is not just a matter of public money being wasted, it is blatant contempt for the voters.

Buffaloa Citizen Monday, 11 March 2013 08:15 AM

He remains a member of parliament, therefore medical bills are paid from the public kitty. We public even paid for PM Jayaratne's medical in USA

    AMM Monday, 11 March 2013 08:15 AM

are you going to enjoy the people money for another 2-3 years without doing anything?

Buffaloa Citizen Monday, 11 March 2013 08:17 AM

The skin of this tribe of people are highly sought in the shoe industry to manufacture strong life time shoes. You know what I mean?

Rubert Vanderkoon Monday, 11 March 2013 08:26 AM

And a Titanium plate for such a head? That Titanium plate must be the most valueble part in his entire body now.

    PRASANNAJIT Monday, 11 March 2013 08:27 AM

No government servant will be given leave like this with full pay.
